thatguy96
Recently, Ron Downey posted a "Stores Characteristics Chart" that McDonnell Aircraft Corporation had done up as a reference guide for the F-4 Phantom. You can find it here at his blog, which is generally an amazing collection of documents in general: http://aviationarchives.blogspot.ca/2016/06/f-4-stores-characteristics-charts.html Among the many things that caught my eye was mention on page 4 of a modified "Hill - Genie," apparently done up at Hill Air Force Base. According to the chart, Hill's change substituted the nuclear warhead for a cluster warhead for the air-to-ground role. Has anyone ever heard of this before?
ikar
New to me. When was this supposed to have happened?
thatguy96
Circa late 1966-early 1967. I wrote up what we do know about this - which isn't much: https://warisboring.com/the-u-s-air-force-tried-turning-nuclear-rockets-into-cluster-bombs-937b407dcd69#.4oio284dx
yardbird78
Viet Nam was a testing ground for new weapons systems, individual weapons and tactics. Some worked, most didn't.
tony.t
It was designed for the Wild Weasel defence-suppression mission. I had some data provided by Mick Roth but can't locate it. Tony
