  1. I might have gotten ahead of myself. I see a pinned thread about carrier decks in dioramas. Maybe I can figure out measurements from those renderings. Did they have both stars and crosses for tie downs during Virtnam?
  2. Hi All, I have been trying to figure out a good subject for a small dio. I have settled on an F-4J using the Eduard kit. So I will scratch a section of carrier deck. Should I be concerned about which tie downs to use? Star or crossed? I suppose I will order a PE set and drill out my own cups/holes in the deck. Also, what would be the distance between them in 48th scale? Maybe someone has one of those pre-made decks they could check for me? Thanks. Bob
  3. Pardon me if I jump in and ask a question about this kit. If I wanted to show the MIG coming in for a landing will the positionable parts in the kit be okay? I have googled some images and watched some video of MIG-23s and I can only see the horizontal stabilizer and the flaps moving. Are there any other parts I need to be concerned about that should be opened or in some other position than what the kit offers? The linked article indicates the leading edge and trailing edge flaps are not positionable. If I need to position the trailing edge flaps maybe a little surgery is not so hard? But I a
  4. So, I think I will do an MF; an Egyptian one from 1973. Is there any soviet ground equipment that can be recommended? Tow bar or some type of cart? 48th scale. I think i found an Aires pilot to stand next to the plane. Bob
  5. Thanks guys. I was interested in the top one in Curt's reply. I think I will try to keep my build simple with trying to avoid kitbashing. I wonder if the Syrians had other variants in this time period I could use, in which Eduard offers a kit? The bis from 1982 look interesting as well. Are there good AM decals out there that would help me with either these options? My quick search shows Afterburner but they don't seem easy to find.
  6. Hi All. I am a newbie to aircraft modeling. I am interested in doing what I think is a Syrian MIG-21 from the early 1970s that has a tiger stripe camo pattern. But I want to use the Eduard 48th scale kit which seems to be the best. But which version? The one variant that was ID'd in my online search was an FL, but Eduard does not seem to have one in that variant. Is there a variant from this time period that I can use from Eduard that would still sport the tiger stripes? If so, is there a decal sheet I can secure to do this, or something I can cobble together for a tiger stripe aircraft? Than
  7. Yep, I have the Eduard set. I will check out the detail you mention. Your photo (of your model?)did not come up. I also want to detail those "hangars" at the top of the seat frames. It appears to be some rod with an odd bracket around it. The bracket might be tough to pull off. Plastic square tubing will be too thick, but easy to cut open to make the brackets. Brass square rod might be thinner but I think I would quickly wear out my cutting disc doing this almost 30 times. Hmmmm.
  8. Thanks Hawkwrench. I will add these details to my model. Bob
  9. So I was going to start my build, but in reviewing photos from the Squadron Walkaround book and online photos, I am already getting confused with the ceiling. My wish is to start with the cabin and then move to the cockpit. I want to do some detailing. Since the helo will be titled forward, one will be able to see the ceiling. As you probably know, the kit ceiling really is lacking in much of anything. In reviewing photos it seems there are "things" in the ceilig, but depending on what source I use it does not always seem to be the same details. Are there lights in the ceiling? This helo fro
  10. Thanks so much Erick. I will send you an email. 12 plus the crew is a lot of fgures to paint up - but I like doing figures. What about a pathfinder unit? Would that be realistic - and fewer men? Bob
  11. Thanks fellas. This is helpful. Bob
  12. Thank for your response Floyd. I have now gathered some items, and reviewed a few references. I will probably do two projects. One will be a takeoff diorama after dropping some soldiers. Another would be some sort of pinnacle landing or takeoff. First I would like to do take off dio set in OIF1 (I suppose 101st Airborne), after dropping off soldiers. I have UH-60L materials for this build: The Academy kit, Big Ed 'L' PE, and two Cobra Co details sets - 35002 which seems to be mostly cockpit detail with some exterior stuff, and 35004 UH-60L Correction set wth engine inlets and step extensions
  13. Hi Folks: This is my first post here. I am an armor builder and so this helicopter will be new territory for me. I like dioramas and figures, so my idea is to do something different with the Blackhawk - if I can. Something taking off or landing. Erick Swanberg gave me a couple of ideas to consder with pinnacle landings. I have been to the NTC before and might be interested in dressing up my Blackhawk in MILES gear, but I am not really sure how that is set up with the Blackhawk. Maybe an A-Stan scene instead... The new US multi cam seems interesting. I am trying to avoid ACUs. Or an early OIF1
