Good day all guys.

With my F-16A virtually finished,is time to move to the next one.

I choose to build an IAF AH-64A Peten and I think that the best way to build one is post here my W.I.P. instead of the In Progress section.

Ok,I'm not a Helo expert at all,so any help and tips and also criticism is more than appreciated as this 's the only way to improve my builds.

AS starting base I choose tha Academy as I've bought the Armycast conversion designed for this kit;I also added a Part PE set.

The Isradecals Peten/Saraf is my main ref material with much more pics from Internet and topic of other ARCers, like the Dave Fassett ones.

As maybe some of you remember,in the past day I post a thread for some help ( thanks guys ) and now I'm wait for an Hi Decal line, sheet, some Archer rivet sheet to detail the exterior of the model and in the next day almost surely I will place an order to Armycast for the engine set conversion.

But stop talking now and please forgive me if go to use incorrect words in my descriptions.

First the customary pics of the materials for this build.

The well know kit.

The book

cL0HfO.jpg[/img]

The Part' PE,Armycast Apache weapons and Peten conversion sets.

fT8vt8.jpg[/img]

Ok,I've started removing the kit console details and replaced with the Part PE;also added the PE on the pit floor

eih1F4.jpg[/img]

BISDHd.jpg[/img]

I cutted the canopy to put the panel in open position.

S7Km2n.jpg[/img]

Thar's all for now, next I need recover the canopy of some scratches and start build the collective, completely absent in the kit.

Thanks for watching and ,please, feel free of criticism and suggestion.

Cheers,

Gianni

Nat,your're very kind my friend...

Like promise here my little progress.

I've worked only in the pit to obtain this.

1nLEbC.jpg[/img]

I've prepared some other detail but I fit them in place only when I painted the cockpit.

A close-up of the seat.

9pHHRt.jpg[/img]

From the previous pics, you can see how the collectives turned out,not perfect but I'm quit happy, and anyway with the seats installed are almost invisibles.

I've also start to work on the gunner IP as the kit one is,well, very poor at least...

I042yt.jpg[/img]

And currently I'm working on the cyclics, here the pilot's,still without the various switch.

kk96pG.jpg[/img]

For the gunner cyclic, someone have good pics,I've various, both on PC and books, but I was unable to understand the precise shape of the bar itself.

Thanks for look,

Gianni.

 • 2 weeks later...

Hello all guys.

In the past day after the last post,I was busy in my little freetime in detail and paint the pit.

First,I've added the various switch on the collectives.

LReQFn.jpg[/img]

Now,preparing the PE for the paint I noted that the pilot circuit breaker have a small ractangular panel that I haven't been found in my pics.I deduced that maybe can be the port "shield" fixed on the ballistic glass between the pits, who do you think?

Here in the red circle the panel.

KAW4pi.jpg[/img]

At this point I've airbrushed the whole pit with Tamiya German Grey,In all my last builds,I adopted this color for the balck areas 'cause I can work afterwards with black oils for the shadow, various acrilic for highlight and details plus washes and pigment for the weathering.

SHqqTY.jpg[/img]

And here's what I got from the union of the various materials and techniques that I listed earlier.

First, the CPG ORT and Hand control column.

gznuQD.jpg[/img]

Next, the tub painted;I've added the two small displays ( red arrows ) as per Israbook pics.To be honest I don't know if are an Israeli add-on or a more widely update of the Alpha worldwide's fleet ,as in the old Lock On monography I don't have them noticed .

CzoZta.jpg[/img]

The whole sub-assembly painted...

3KjMc3.jpg[/img]

...and some detail shots.

616CNw.jpg[/img]

I opened and detailed the various vents;for the one close to the port engine I used an Eduard PE: I cut the squared hole and glued in the inner side some plsticard strip to offer at the PE a more wide backing, glued and sanded flush with the fuselage.

iWINvp.jpg[/img]

Moving to the nose,I improved the TADS/PNVS and added some detail here and there.

JyvzYw.jpg[/img]

R6GewB.jpg[/img]

Ok that's all.

Now I'm searching for pics of the area immediately aft the nose sensors turret ( I've some images but I need more for a good job ) and of the inner area where the main rotor fit .

Any criticism, suggestion and tips are more than welcome!

Thanks all for watch,

Gianni

Thanks midnightprowler!

This afternoon I added more details to the IHDSS sensors as look to simple, sheck the previous pics, nothing of special I finished all four in a hour.

But I don't know where to start with the rotor...with the rotors really ,I just noted what mess is the tail one!

Good day guys,

a quick update.

I passed last days to detail the area just aft the TADS turret and this is the result ( still miss some wiring job here and there).

5RjZJy.jpg[/img]

I've also reworked the IHDSS sensor 'cause my first attempt look too poor.

pNxeuO.jpg[/img]

Finally,I start to work the main rotor.

That's all for today,I hope to show something of more interest soon.

Thanks for watching,

Thanks mate!

A question: I've finished to detail the area where the main rotor' mast fit ( with an Hase' 1/48 Apache-style,some pics in the week-end ) and now I've to paint the interior before close the fuselage.

I noted that in the majority of the build I see all the internal airframe paint job show these areas in yellow zinch chromate, but in the Israbook the pics show that the mainteined birds have a more greenish tint.To confuse more my head ,in the walkaround section of this book,I noted that the inner surface of the doghouse are in the same brown of the camo.

Any help or suggestion?

Thanks,

Gianni

Good day guys.

Dave, thanks for your kindness,is very important for me that you follow my build as your Apache's topic (great job!) is one of my ref source.

Ok,now I'll show the actual state of my build.

First a general look with the already installed modified aft end "cheeks".

If6gye.jpg[/img]

I don't meet particular problem with the fit, only a minimal putty job was needed and for this I used melted plastic as from my last builds I elected this media my "weapon of choice" 'cause I can rescribe over it in a more easy way that over traditional putty.

The PEs came from the Eduard set for the HB AH-64A.

vMKDWl.jpg[/img]

I open the air scoop on the fuselage's left side ( don't noted at first) and added the plate that blank-off the standard chaffe & flare dispenser.

ahVp7J.jpg[/img]

And the finished ( more or less ) main rotor;I've added and changed more details here, again, the PE came from the Eduard set designed for the HB kit.

PjPh0t.jpg[/img]

But now the part that make me lose the sleep in the past days.

As previous said,to scratch this area I used both ref pics and the 1/48 Hase kit of a friend ,I confess that I don't have the bravery and skill for a complete scratch...this will not be tha a perfect Apache despite my effort but 'til now I'm happy of the result after all!

HVLmvi.jpg[/img]

And how look with the mast dry fitted.

0FsfMl.jpg[/img]

Finally,I used the Eduard PEs for the wing tips, they fit pretty nice, especially if you considered that are actually designed to fit the HB ones.

I0NnMz.jpg[/img]

Now,I noted in this ( and others ) pics this small detail that look like a small air exhaust. The image came from the Kfir's Lair,so if I violated some copyright, please delete it.

FEpco6.jpg[/img]

What it is? Better pics?

Like always thanks for watching and feel free to comment.

Cheers,

Gianni

Ehi mate thanks for your appreciation.

A little update;

I decided to build the Peten with the starboard engine nacelle open using the Armycast set and the kit ones for the closed engine.

But I need to add some detail for the visible part of the kit one,so here what I done.

6XPGJS.jpg[/img]

ehVoD1.jpg[/img]

And what is visible when assembled.

Qrg5Qk.jpg[/img]

And the Part PEs to add some more details.

601H00.jpg[/img]

And now the Armycast engine painted and assembled;as evident I've to add more wire and pipe to busy up that area, but only with the model finished,I fear that eventually the masking tape can remove some wire.

NvfBiI.jpg[/img]

Jq6Cxt.jpg[/img]

73lxAc.jpg[/img]

Isn't beautiful I know but I can leave with it...

Despite I've tha Armycast Apache armament set,I decided to try and detail the kit M-230 and this is what I achieved.

CVIWdA.jpg[/img]

My solution for the ammunitions and how fit to the cannon.

z8eRo8.jpg[/img]

Finally, the kit canopy developed a crack, probably when I cut the access doors,so I bought a Rob Taurus vacu replacement and here with some details added.

zATjb8.jpg[/img]

That's all for today, thanks for watching,

Gianni.

Looks great so far! So much detail! Looking forward to seeing the finished item!

.

I'm going to build a 1/48 version with the experimental green and sand camo that the Israeli pilots really hated and only featured on two of the helicopters. I already have a 1/72 olive drab version and a 1/72 AH64D in the now standard Israeli brown and sand colour, so this will go nicely with them.

Hi guys,

many thanks for your words!

I've to admit that my skills are still limited, but I try my best to improve any my next model,I hope to build a decent Peten...

Ok,here the painted canopy( still without the pilot's circuit breaker and other tiny details).

RHxzX1.jpg[/img]

And what I was able to obtain after a whole morning of work on the tail rotor, also here I need to add bolt,wiring,ecc...

kpmQuJ.jpg[/img]

JC49MK.jpg[/img]

INtdCp.jpg[/img]

BEOw1S.jpg[/img]

That's all for now, probably next time I can show the Helo Drab parts painted,I mix the Gunze Olive Drab and Black to obtained it,followed by the closure of the fuselage.

Thanks again for watching and please comment any mistake, the only way to improve.

Cheers,

Gianni
