druss135
F-4 fans know that the liner in the afterburner cans of the J79 have a greenish color to them. I'm looking for tips on replicating this effect, if anyone has a good idea. The interior of the exhausts have an Alclad Dull Aluminum + Jet Exhaust base coat. I'm thinking either light mists of 1) Tamiya clear green, or 2) a cocktail of MM zinc chromate and light tan. Perhaps tone down the Tamiya clear green with clear smoke? Anyone have any thoughts? By the way, building a 1/48 Hasegawa RF-4C, using the Aires exhausts. THANKS! Don
Ro-Gar Hobbies
Hi Don, I just looked a photo on line and based on what I see, I would just paint it a mid toned green color and then weather onto it. You can spray some lighter toned grays over it. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/oEPr7IbRswKto9-b6n0vfRPg1qMG3N_gV7iCW1nSRZ8=w1007-h681-no Robert
Bob Beary
I used Tamiya flat white primer as a base coat, followed by heavily thinned Tamiya olive drab, then a light coat of Alclad pale burnt metal. Then I shot a very light mist of jet exhaust on the very end. Looks real good to me. Don't worry too much about it....once you stick the cans on the end, the rest is just about invisible. druss135
Yeah, I am probably overthinking it since it will be barely visible. Don
druss135
So, I ended up spraying a light, thin mist of Model Air medium green lightened with USAF light gray. Sprayed over the Aclard aluminum, came out nice. Good enough since it all looks like a black hole when assembled. Don R
