Gene K
Good News -- Bad News: Wingnut Wings announced a couple of months ago that they would in the future ship through Weta Workshoup, establishing warehouses in several worldwide locations. At the same time, Wingnut Wings announced the end of free shipping. The result for me in the US is that these magnificent kits are now 25% more expensive than before - a $70 kit costs $17 to ship ... EACH, regardless of the number ordered. That means I would have had to pay $51 shipping for the three kits I WAS going to order. (Of course I'll order as soon as the sticker shock wears off a little). Gene K

Gene K
... will keep my 48th scale beauties and spend the money on better magnifiers... Hah ha ... . I don't have that kind of willpower when it comes to such great WNW quality. So I went ahead and ordered ... . Gene K
jinmmydel
I just saw this and will keep my 48th scale beauties and spend the money on better magnifiers... damned eyes! Regards, The website is still a work in process. The shipping stacking is an error, and being worked on (it may be fixed already actually). Wingnut said free shipping was ending long ago, and now it's here. Rest assured that you'd be paying a lot more if you were ordering directly from NZ and paying shipping. Just like the reality of ordering most anything else in this hobby, you now have to pay shipping. They are also only using UPS for estimates at the moment. Shipping on similar sized items would probably be closer to $13 from USPS. I do believe they are also working on adding other shipping options. There have been some hiccups, but they are dedicated to working them out.

Sir Fondlebottom
Saw they're now showing prices as Euro and was worried they'd give me the "Europeans have greater buying power" price hike that I'm used to as soon as it's €. But it actually comes out 1 dollar cheaper now, compared to my old receipt from June 9 before the shop overhaul... so that's neat! krow113
Came out close to $600 (!) Canadian for an AEG. Cant do it. WNW needs a Canadian distributor asap. My own personal opinion of weta is that they add on their own profit for as little compensation as possible. Kits were arriving unboxed , left on doorsteps, superb box art ruined . Thoroughly unacceptable , but WAS ATTEMPTED on their part. Greed has arrived. BIG mistake WNW.
Gene K
BIG mistake WNW. I sure agree. Despite jimmydel's assurances, nothing has changed on the Weta website as regards stacking the high shipping costs. Gene K
David Fifer
I sure agree. Despite jimmydel's assurances, nothing has changed on the Weta website as regards stacking the high shipping costs. Gene K I agree. WNW, if you read these comments, here's some marketing feedback: (1) Stacking shipping costs hurts sales. When buying online, I usually have one item I want badly enough to initiate the purchase and one or more other items I'm more indifferent about but go ahead and add because of the economy of bundling them into an existing order. There's no incentive for me to do that with Weta's stacked shipping costs. (2) Admittedly, in a sense WNW has always stacked shipping because the former "free" shipping offered no discount for bundling multiple items into one shipment. But if you're going to maintain that policy then just raise the prices and continue to offer "free" shipping. Don't tease me with one price and then make me go most of the way through the ordering process before telling me the real price. Which brings me to my next suggestion. (3) The purchase process on the Weta website is not well designed: "Maybe I'll treat myself to this WNW kit. I can swing that price." (click, click, fill in name and address, click) "Whoa! That shipping cost seems a little steep! Wish they’d told me the shipping cost sooner. Oh well. Maybe if I add that other kit I was considering I can feel better about the actual per-kit cost." (click, click, click) “Rats. It didn’t offer combined shipping when I added the second kit to my cart. Oh, wait. The second kit I added appears to ship to the USA from New Zealand. I thought all the orders to the USA were supposed to ship from within the USA now. Whatever. Maybe kit #2 is out of stock in the USA but not NZ. Well, they obviously can’t combine shipping on kits shipped from different hemispheres, and the cost for shipping kit #2 from NZ is even steeper than the cost for shipping kit #1, so I guess I’ll forget kit #2. Better remove it from my cart.” (click, click) “Certainly they’ll combine shipping if I add another kit to my order that’s in stock in the USA. I wonder how I can tell which kits are in stock in the USA?” (search, search, search) “No luck. Apparently the only way to tell if a kit ships from the USA is to go through the steps of adding it to one’s cart. Okay. Well, maybe I’ll try adding this other kit.” (click, click, click) “Success! I have two kits in my cart that ship from the USA. Now, I wonder what the combined shipping cost will be?” (click, click, click, click, drum roll….) “What’s this? No combined shipping under any circumstances? Each kit is treated as a separate shipment even if they’re shipping from and to the same place? I’m starting to lose enthusiasm for this purchase. Shipping’s kind of steep; no shipping discount for adding to my order…. I think I’m going to forget about this for now. Maybe someday when they get the bugs worked out of their ordering process I’ll give it another shot.” I suggest that the Weta web designers carefully study the customer purchase interface at Amazon.com, or (perhaps better still) WNW just wholesale to an established US hobby retailer like Sprue Brothers who already have a good customer interface and work to minimize customers' shipping costs.
