A26 / B26k / A20 / Tigercat

Recommended Posts

You know I was looking at my "revised" addition GWH Black Widow last night. I had just plain forgotten how nice this kit is. So I then drag out an FW189 from GWH. Really nice! (looks like a nightmare to mask!) Right next to the FW were three or four A20 kits. One literally fell in my hands. Lots of resin inside the box. Still it wasn't a Great Wall quality kit.

Now GWH have proven they can do some serious twin engine props! Just imagine what an A20 or B26k would look like from GWH!! Or the Tigercat! I'm telling GWH that they'd be lined up to buy them all. I'd be good for at least two of each one. (well two B26k's, and two A26's) We've needed a modern kit of the A20 and A26 for what seems like forever!

Don't forget the Martin B-26 Marauder!!!!

Don; I'm old enough to remember the when B26 first hit the market! The modeling world went nuts over it. At the time we had a series of Monogram B25's followed by the new B26. All the magazines were talking about how soon Monogram would follow with an A20 Havoc and a Hudson. We did get an A26 that looks pregnant. I kinda think it's time for somebody to jump on the bandwagon and get rich!

LOL I must be the same vintage Gary...My Dad built the old Aurora kit esci he bult, then the 1/72 scale Revells came out I thought I had gone to heaven. The 1/48 scale Monoram was ok not anything special. I had more fun building the ERCI ESCL kit finding some good looking aftermarket R-2800 to replace the 14 cyl. engines ESCL had included in the kit.

Will be 67 next month, been building since a teenager so like you I have seen it all.

I hear guys crying about the rivet monster all the time. The very first kit I built was an F86d. They even outlined in the plastic for decal placement. The rivets felt like we were holding and alligator. Interiors?? What's that? Air brush? We had some paint brushes, and once in awhile we found a spray can. On any given day, we had Lindberg, Aurora, Revell (they were fairly new), and Monogram. I'd love to have that F86 again. It carried a lot of memories. Had finger prints all over it, and I thought I had the greatest thing in the world. For all you youngsters, the kit cost thirty nine cents.

Most modelers love the 1/48th Monogram props; yet the really don't understand how old they are. When they hit the market, they were state of the art. Now they are like your grandma's old Kaiser sedan. I never really expected Tamiya to do any of these kits, and if they did we'd have to take out a second mortgage. Besides I think GWH sells better kits. Should GWH take on the full line of WWII twins, and of course the B24 series along with the B17 series; They'd be swamped in sales. Along the way they could add an occasional German and British bomber (lots to pick from), and we'd jump all over them. Just the thought of a B17G from GWH sends chills down my spine.

By the way I'm still older than you!!<g>

I threw in Great Wall Hobby because I knew that with their name on the box, it would be first rate and the equal to anything out there. Yes we have some other players in the game. Think Tamiya, Hasegawa, Eduard, and even Revell (they are starting to roll out some serious kits). I just trust GWH to market a quality product.

Them comment was made about the kits being expensive. I have exactly two GWH kits (aircraft), and they both reek with quality. Yet if Tamiya marketed the same P61, it would probably be well over $120 (but also be very good). Samething for the FW189 kit. This is not a knock on Tamiya, Hasegawa, or whomever, but a cry for something better. Somebody like GWH could do one new mold a year, and then expand off it (the A20 stands out here as there are several airframes that come off the basic A20). Of course the A26 would take on a much larger task, but is doable (A26b thru B26k). The B26 airframe is a much loved one. There's the early short wing and the later long wing. We'd all want one of each! Personally, I love them todo a Hudson!!!
