Hi All, this is my first post on ARC column. I’d like to show you, how I make the scratch-building,The Big “ E†in 1/144 scale. Any question, comment and criticisms be appreciative, because I like to remake the Fiberglas Hull, Island and accessories for the one who like to have 1/144 aircraft carrier on their living room, Hopefully (quite sure), final the price Tag of duplicated Hull and fitting not over $ 4,000 (you will get the Fiberglass Hull, resin Fittings, pre –cut Plastic sheet Flight Deck, Island and Photoech parts, will show you guy this post later on.

Why, CVN -65 USS Enterprise??

- There is 1/350 Tamiya USS Enterprise in the market for use as reference model

- Its Island is unique and easy to make the drawing and cutting.

- It’s the first Nuclear Aircraft carrier

Here

First of all get the Tamiya hull and make hull contour by contour gauge and make the bulkhead drawings,

Hull Bulkhead drawings

Before make laser cutting I cut the hull bulkheads on paper and review the shape and form, make it as close as tamiya 1/350 big E

Then make the laser cut plastic sheets, get chunk of Hull bulkheads, start assembly “Big E†skeleton

Start to apply skin by using styrene plastic sheet (I used to make hull skin by thin foam sheet and cover with fiberglass, to avoid messiness and a lot of sanding, this one I apply styrene plastic instead

Brother, that is awesome and I would love to have it if only I had room. Now, are you building this complete copy from Tamiya kit or are you change it to make it into Post Gulf War? From what I understand, Tamiya kit out-of-the-box is pre-Gulf War ship. I'm sure some experts will share more on this.

Oh btw, will yours have a complete hanger bay?

Great work so far on the Big E. It it comes in under 4k I'm certainly interested in buying one.Would be great if you could give the option of the earlier beehive Bridge. I will be following with interest.

Yuri

Your comment is very interesting on the earlier beehive Bridge. :salute:/> and yes I would like to do the option of the old beehive, so you can make both 2 option, hope you can find her the airwings easily, (A-5 and A-7 in 144 scale very hard to find)

and I did some study on her old beehive here

That is looking excellent! The early beehive would be nice as I would model the Big E as about 1972 when the first F-14's went aboard her. The RA-5C you can pick up in 1/144 scale. It would be the A-7's I think would be the most difficult to obtain. I really like your progress on thsi and I'm still interested in purchasing one from you.

Can't wait to see more.

This is really awesome! Outstanding work.

Something you may want to consider would be to offer the island models as a model that could be bought seperate from the ship for guys that might want to do a dio. I think that MIGHT sell pretty well to those that couldn't afford the full ship model. Just a friendly suggestion.

I'd like to update a bit on Beehive version, I have to make the paper model before sent to the laser cutting and this is the Big E- Beehive dome version. but I'm not quiet happy with this dome yet, I will make another one and make it right as close as the dome which show on Big "E" at smithsonian museum

Good to see you back! Excellent work on the elevators and the beehive island. How the model is depicted in the Smithsonian is exactly how I want to build her with the first F-14's and S-3A's aboard her. You can certainly count on me buying one from you.

How is the hull progressing? I will drop you a pm off board.

Great work so far and I can’t wait to see more.
