2 for the price of 2

I had a Cobra Company A-1E conversion sitting around and I had the Tamiya A-1H kit the results are below. When I was done I had this very nice Tamiya fuselage left over. So I pulled out a Monogram A-1H and used the left over Tamiya parts to "upgrade" the Monogram kit. The Cobra conversion was almost a goner from the start. I was sanding the mating surfaces to get a nice even glue surface and before I knew it I had sanded about 1/8" too much off. I sandwiched some sheet plastic between the fuselage pieces and disaster averted. I like to do conversions because they force me out of my comfort zone and get me something that otherwise isn't available. I used Aeromaster decals for the A-1E and the Tamiya kit decals for the A-1H. Hope you like these.

Geoff, both of those look great. I really like the exhaust trails. I am wondering though, after weathering the sides, why leave the wings so clean? Don't get me wrong, I really like both builds and I'm still striving to do half so well.

I weather from pictures I find and try to imitate what I see. It is rare that I find a picture that gives a top down view of the wings. The fuselage is very obvious, I guess I don't have the imagination to fill in the blanks on the wing weathering. I have seen some people do the gun stains on wing mounted guns but I have not come up with a convincing way of duplicating that.

Love your Spads!

Monogram or Matchbox? I've got the latter, and I've managed to glue up and repair the wing to get rid of the toy wing folds; but of course I now have to rescribe the wing. If you did rescribe, what did you use as a reference?

A most impressive 2 for. Two really well done conversions. Both models certainly display their own personality and sense of realism through your realistic style of weathering. Very nicely done.

Sorry to take so long to get back. The A-1E is a Tamiya kit with the C & H Miniatures conversion and the Cobra Company cockpit. I then used the leftover Tamiya fuselage and other parts on the Monogram kit to upgrade it a little.
