Watch Makers Glue

Recommended Posts

Greetings,

I'm gluing two large plastic parts together. I could use PVA. But I'm wondering if there isn't something better. Has anyone had any experience using Watch Maker's Glue which is used for securing crystals to watches?

Thank you

Dave

I've used it. As advertised, it doesn't fog the plastic and it dries clear. Because it does affect enamel paints, I use this stuff or Gator's Grip depending on the circumstances.

What exactly are you trying to glue?

Curt

I'm finishing up my Easter Egg Plane project for a modeling group I participate in. I'm doing the Hasegawa Hughes 300 helicopter. The cockpit consists of two very large clear egg shaped halves. The seam will be painted over. In addition I'm planning on running a line of Archer Transfer rivets over part of the seam. Here's what I'm working with. I always like to try new techniques with my projects and thought this one would be an interesting challenge in dealing with glued together clear parts.

My paint comment referred to gluing painted surfaces. Painting a glued joint is fine.

Funny, I was just looking at that kit at the LHS. Not too much of a stretch given the real aircraft's already egg-like appearance

Any tips on how you apply watch maker's glue cleanly?

I've used teh GS Hypo cement in the past, and it is a super strong bond, but it always is a gloopy, stringy mess when I use it - like high strength testor's tube glue.

TIA

I haven't had such problems. That's the exact stuff I use. I pull the pin, squeeze out onto the joint line, quickly clean the tip and cap the tub, and then mate the other part. The application tube is so thin that I get a nice thin bead with careful pressure. Note that I clean the tip and put the pinned cap back on right away to avoid glue loss. I've learned to be fastidious about cleaning glue tips and paint jar tops.
