Any shops in Downtown Toronto?

Recommended Posts

Well, got the info this morning, our accomadations and conferences are at the Eatons Centre Marriott in Downtown Toronto, any decent shops within walking distance worth checking out. Also, I know there is a toy store in the Eatons Centre, would they sell any kits?

Not really the only good one I found near there is Wheels and wings on Danforth. Well worth it to check it out. I wish I could go there more often then I do

Also when downtown check out the world's largest book store they carry a lot of Schiffer Books among others.

The only other one is Aviation World on Carlingview but that is up by Pearson International.

I would recommend the one on Danforth as well. They have the most aftermarket and kits. But not a lot of decals. After that Avaiation world and then North Star which is straight south of AV world, down the 427 turning right on Hwy 5.

Sadly AV world has not had new stock in quite a while and North Star has almost bare shelves.

You can get to W&W via the transit system.

You can call TTC info line which will give you instructions on how to get there.

You mentioned walking distance and that pretty much leaves most/all of them out. there is also hornet hobbies, but, again transit/walking meh Hornet hobbies

If you are feeling hungry, "Greek Town" is an area of restaurants that runs along the Danforth(same subway line) there are some pretty good places to eat.

Danforth BIA

I hope that you enjoy your stay.

this I did not know about these two, sad seems to be the case in a lot of hobby shops here. Biggest complain is just trying to get stuff from the suppliers

Ahh, was hoping for something closeby. If I have any time at all it would only be a few minutes duruing a lunch or coffee break..., if its less than a Km or so Ill try. If I knew the city better I would defnitely try to get to Northstar or Keiths hobbies. Will look at walking directions to the store on Danforth Thanks anyways guys, will wait for the Black Friday online sales I guess.

Well,

Even taking the transit, it would take about 1/2 hour to get to W&W

Driving..oh 15 minutes. Assuming all goes well.

Darnit the map I had did not link.

There used to be a place called Gameways ark a long time ago. First time I ever saw the Tamiya 1/32nd F-14.

hmm..found this: Game & Hobby

Highly recommended - with current exchange rates between USD and Canadian, the prices aren't too bad.

I was able to snag a Revell Rafale B for about 25 US which is about what I'd pay at a shop here.

They also have a huge collection of "resealed" and older kits downstairs along with a few crates of older books. I was able to find quite a few cool titles and went home with a nice pile.

Staff are helpful too if you need help finding something. Free coffee at the door ;)

If you are Eaton Centre, the closest one, not walking distance, is Dragon Hobby.

Since this guy is the single owner, you should call first.

Gerrard St E, Toronto, ON M4M 1Y3

Phone:(416) 778-4775

Take the Street Car from King Street which is going to Broadview Station. Get off at Gerrard St station. Walk east and you will see the store about 200 metres on the north side of the street. The total ride time is around 15/20 minutes.

The other route, thats sometime faster is going north to Yonge/Bloor station. Take the train eastbound from there and get off at Broadview. Take the street car going south on Broadview and get off at Gerrard.

The advantage to me of this store is that he still has couple of Gunze Sangyo paints which is my preferred personal choice in paints.

Hope this helps.

Adding to my 2011 entry, North Star is now closed and Aviation World STILL has next to nothing on the shelfs for modellers. They constantly say new stuff is coming, but that has been going on for 5 years now. Its too bad because I really liked that place.

There is a dumpy place called Panther hobbies near where North Star used to be. Rather expensive and mostly (appears) to be consinment. Next to no new stock unless its from China.

The one on Danforth is still the best bet but rather expensive.
