CanadaMoe
Hello All, Can anyone tell me what RAAF Mirage IIIO squadron(s) were based at Butterworth, Malaysia before 1970? (I remember as a young kid watching these Mirages fly over head.) With the new Kinetics IIIo kit out, I would like to build one. TIA MOE
AndrewPerren
Hi Moe 75 Squadron & 3 Squadron both operated Mirage IIIO from Butterworth pre 1970.
CanadaMoe
Thanks for the reply, Andrew. So the markings from the Caracal Mirage IIIO Part I, of "A3 24" would be sufficient to represent the bird. (I like the Magpie crest better.) Thanks so much for this. Moe Correct, but use the black and white 75SQN tail flash rather than the specified black and grey flash suggested by the profile(that I see on the website). The grey in the tail flash was only introduced in the early 80s when the RAAF started to experiment with Low Vis schemes prior to the F/A-18 coming on line.
AndrewPerren
No worries Moe. Just keep in mind that the camouflage scheme for A3-24 would be later than 1970 I think. Very early birds may have worn the silver scheme if you are set on doing a pre 1970 aircraft. The Caracal decals are really nice as well. Go for it.
