MiG-29A Bulgarian AF

Recommended Posts

Hello friends!

The summer is almost gone an it is time for our hobby again. I want to present you my latest build - the GWH MiG-29A in the colors of the Bulgarian air force. I wanted to do it without aftermarket as the kit is a gem in itself, But had to do some shape refinements and some scratch built details. The decals used are from Caracal Models. The model is painted with Akan acrylics and weathered with oils. It represents a start up with one engine running and the second one still off.

Thank you guys!

Outstanding work Stenka.I think that this one is the best mig-29 I have ever seen.In any scale.

I am honored to hear this from a true master of MiGs!

Can you describe the shape refinements and the scratch built details?

Thanks

Thomas

The main thing I did is to make the "chicks" more pronounced and to refine the transition from the chicks to the nose to achieve the true MiG-29 look. I worked on the landing gears and their bays as there were some mistakes and odd "ribs" in there. They did some design decisions and then changed their mind without cleaning up. The other thing I did is to close one of the exhaust nozzles and the top side of the plane I added some raised detail. You can see more here in our clubs forum: My link

this is what I really admire in others modeling. The simple markings of a line bird, with weathering done so well it looks real!

Really well done. With the right background, it would look absolutely real!

Thanks for the reply! But what do you mean with "chicks"?

Superb paint job! Match with the real one in my eyes. Do you dilute the AKAN paints with some white or gray to get some paint's scale effect before use or just use it straight from the bottle?May I know what AKAN paint number did you use for the main camo?

Cheers

I used the Akan paints number 73092 for the light gray and 73093 for the gray-green color. First I applied them as tehy are and then added some light gray to them + little blue for some of the panels. Then I finished it with oil washes.
