AB Charles in the Pittsburgh PA area closing?

Recommended Posts

Stopped in to AB Charles south of Pittsburgh this past weekend, and found that after nearly 70 years in business, this family owned business is closing. The owner mentioned that it is possible to prevent the closing, as after he put up the "store closing" sign, he had his best days in business in over two years! I was able to pick up a Tamiya 1/48 f-16 (on sale) and academy's 1/72 f-15 msip.

Yeah, I was in there a couple weeks ago and he told me the same thing. I didn't purchase anything other than a toy car for my son, as the CC machine was down and I didn't have much cash. Unfortunately, even if he does stay in business, I'm not sure I'll be venturing back very often, even when I visit the burgh. The new location is just too far out of the way from where we normally are when we're up there. At least there's still Hobby Express in Cranberry, which is much more convenient to our typical destination. HE is a decent shop, too.

wow. the CC machine was down for me too. well, at least I was able to pick up that f-16 for a decent discount (under 50.00). Will have to check out HE. I am more from the mon valley, but like the feel of cranberry, much less of the rust belt feel that I grew up with, and to some extent miss.

Hobby Express is in the Target plaza, north/east on 228 from I-79 about a half mile or so. Pretty decent plastic selection and supplies, but not much AM or decals. Lots of train, slot car, RC, and diecast stuff, too. The store is pretty full of stuff.
