Jwilke is correct. In Jeff Kolln's "Northrop's P-61 Black Widow, Night Hunter" It calls out serial number 42-39404 as "Mississippi Night Mare" later renamed "Midnite Madness II" The "Spook III" is serial number 42-39405. This aircraft was also named Victory Model / Anonymous. Sorry for the confusion. Thanks again Jwilke.

Hi Terry, I saw your post on "Spook" and thought I might add some more info to it. The actual serial number is 42-39403 which is still a P-61 B-1. And yes it did crash and all survived. The aircraft was assigned to the 548th NFS. The picture in the Osprey book is wrong though. It shows aircraft 42-39405 "Model/Anonymous III" which was also named " Mississippi Night Mare". But the nose art is the same. All of this information comes from two sources: "Northrop's Night Hunter, P-61 Black Widow", by Jeff Kolln and " Deny Them the Night Sky, A History of the 548th Night Fighter Squadron", by Eric

Okay, here's the info, Aircraft (acft) 42-5536 was assigned to the 422nd Night Fighter Squadron (NFS) and I have linked two pics of this acft for you. Acft 42-5551 was assigned to the 6th NFS and I have linked a photo of this as well. Both aircraft are P-61 A-5's. They should have left the factory with olive drab/grey scheme but in the pics they are both painted gloss black. Probably done at a field depot. So what's the difference other than the units assigned? If you look at acft 42-5536 you'll notice the name "HUSSLIN HUSSEY" and what looks to be a couple of cartoon ducks on the right sid

I can tell you otherwise. I'm gathering the info for you now and will post it here in a few hours. In the meantime check out: http://www.geocities.com/mep1100/ This is my sight on the P-61. Some of the info is out of date but I'm trying to make updates to it now. Enjoy! blckwidow

Joker, Try this site: http://www.luftwaffe-experten.org/forums/. They have an extensive database on Ju-88 night fighters. Ollie

Thanks Joker. I'll look for that model and give it a try. Ollie

Does any one know of a good 300 gal 1/72 scale drop tank (the ones used on the P-38) for a P-47. I've tried using a set from Hasegawa's P-38 but they just don't look right. Any suggestions? Ollie
