Supermarine S4, S5, S6

Recommended Posts

With the exception of the old Hawk/Testors S6B there has been nothing. I would love to see anything even in vac form. I am in the process of attempting to modify a pre-mentioned S6B into a S5. Shorten wings, floats and new nose. I would much rather just build a nice new kit.

Hawk actually did a number of 1/48 Golden Age racers, including the S.6B, R3C-2, Travel Air Mystery Ship, Howard Ike, Laird Solution, Gee Bee R1, and Mr. Mulligan; go back far enough and Pyro did a 1/32 Hall-Springfield Bulldog. As you note, these all need a lot of love...

For more modern kits, Planet Models has a nice pair of 1/48 Hughes H-1 Racers in long and short-wing versions.

Stormo did a 1/48 Macchi M.39, Macchi M.52R, and Piaggio-Pegna P.c.7. In 1/32, there are an S.6B from Aerotech and R3C-2 from XS Models. Profil 24 has a 1/24 Gloster VI

:D, Hi Otto. Way back in the day Airfix and Frog both did the S6B in 1/72 scale. There have been other models also in either resin or vacform that I can remember and not just of the S6B. There is a site called Focus on Vacforms where you might find some of what you're looking for.

,

Ross.

I would love to find a 1/48 s4 and S5 along with a Curtis F6C-6 early version bipe. Not the reworked parasol.

Atelier NOIX Models did all three Supermarine racers in resin, in 1/48.

Aerotech have done them in resin in 1/32.

Sierra Scale did a 1/48 F6C, though I don't know if it's the version you want.

I found the ancient Hawk(?) 1/48ish kit at an antique store, already started. The outline was nice but it was a very simple kit with raised detail showing where the markings went. Someone with more patience than (at the time) 16yo me would be able to make it something special, but I tossed it as it wasn't worth the effort. Now I may be able to do it justice.

I agree a modern injected S.6B would be nice. Who knows, maybe Airfix will LIDAR scan the survivor and issue a new kit?

Finding any of the NOIX kits at almost any price is next to impossible. The Vac F6C is the one I want . I will put it on floats and that's all.

Hey, why don't you do that F6C on floats for the just-started Skis and Floats ... Anything But Wheels GB

Only if I could find one. I have a few of the Testors S6B kits and have started one. Sanded off all the raised panel lines and started scribing them back in. As I mentioned, I will attempt to modify one into a S5.

Just got my hands on one of the Sierra kits of the F6C and it comes with the floats. This way it is EXACTLY the variant I want to do the F6C-3 # A-7147
