Ebay Bad Trader 051hunter1701 Chris Deegan

Ok group,

I really don't like doing this, but I feel I must my fellow modelers the heads up. Ebay trader 051hunter1701 aka Chris Deegan is practicing deceptive marketing. About a month ago I won an auction for a Hasegawa 09509 1/48 F-4J "Liberty Bell". The seller called himself 051hunter1701. The listing was described as "New in Box". However, the box had been opened. The pictures indicated that the Liberty Bell decal sheet was missing, but I was willing to accept that. I wanted to use other markings anyway. What I was after was a state-of-the-art Hasegawa F-4J with engraved panel lines. With the kit # 09509, I assumed this would be the case. My references indicated an engraved panel line recent molding F-4J.

When I received the kit, I opened the box and to my dismay, an older raised panel line F-4J was substituted for the contents of the kit. Also the kit instructions were for an older Hasegawa raised panel line F-4J. The clear parts were missing. I should have sent the kit back and asked for a refund, but I contacted the seller instead. I was hoping to receive the proper parts to this kit in exchange for the incorrect parts. What I got from 051hunter1701 was a lame response about how some Hasegawa kits are raised and some are engraved and that I should have known about the condition of the kit from looking at the pictures in the auction.

In other words he behaved like a used car salesman who knowingly sold a lemon and then dances around the subject.

I asked for clear replacement parts, which 051hunter1701 to his credit did ship. However he used a padded felt envelope which got crushed in the mail, so the center section is cracked. I messaged him once again. Once again I point out that he mis-represented the model and deceived me. Once again, he dances around and blames me for essentially not knowing that he slipped the wrong kit in the right box. A kind of caveat emptor but from the seller! At this point I'm highly frustrated. The holidays are coming and I didn't want to be in a bad mood over a lousy 30 bucks. I admit defeat. I tell him he has won and I will no longer push the issue. I tell him there will be no further communication from me. His response was a very shafty :"Well thank Christ that's over".

Ladies and gentlemen I warn you to stay away from 051hunter1701 aka Chris Deegan.

Gene,

Do you have any recourse with Ebay or PayPal left? Both services offer buyer protection on all the items on Ebay especially when paid through PayPal. According to the link below, the Liberty Bell kit should have been engraved/recessed panel lines.

As far as I am concerned you didn't get what you paid for and that is exactly what I would tell Ebay/PayPal. It may cost you the shipping to send it back to the guy, but it really comes down to the principal of the thing. Even though Ebay is more seller orientated these days, if the guy continues to sell bogus items and receives enough complaints then Ebay will suspend or cancel/delete his sellers profile. You did the right thing, man by giving the guy the chance to at least make things right with the clear parts, and he ended up pooching that too. If it were me I wouldn't give the guy any more chances and I wouldn't let him off the hook either. Of course all of this is just what I would do. I hope this helps!

Best Regards,

Ken Bailey
