Just wanted to introduce myself and say hi! My main interests are the Apollo Space program and I like to model in 32 scale and 72 scale. Current builds are the LEM 17 in 1/32 scale and 1/16 scale. I also am slowly working on a scrathbuilt Tractor Crawler in 1/72 scale for the Apollo LUT. Great site here and after lurking for many months decided to join and I hope I can make a contribution to the site.

Cheers, Gene

Hiya Gene ... I love the Apollo stuff too. My 1/48 Apollo Lunar Spacecraft LM is gonna be the Apollo 17 version too.

And I completely agree with you, this is a GREAT site for Real Space subjects. These builders are just excellent! I'm learnin' loads from these guys!

And with Mr Meens 1/32 LM, your build and John's ... I guess I'll be here 24/7! :woot.gif:

Post your WIP pix as often as you can!

Pete

Hi Gene, welcome aboard!!! Please do post photos of your builds. Build up pics are mighty welcome too (so we can learn from your techniques, heheh) And don't worry at all about going slow. Slow-cooked beef stew tastes better. It took Michaelangelo years to finish the Sistine Chapel painting. It took Michael Jack 10 years to finish his LUT. But at least finish one before 2019 -- the big year :) I have a request to make --- can you post your 1/16 LM first -- I need inspiration :)

I'm building the 32 scale LEM17 first as it'll be a test bed for the Kapton application and finishing techniques. The 1/16 version will follow.I want to add working interior ,nav lights and if possibly the legs to extend and retract.I'm just waiting on the rest of the descent section parts to arrive to start construction on the 32 scale version. I have the Kapton etc on hand ready to go.

Thanks to all for the welcome aboard!

Cheers, Gene

Welcome Gene.....it is good to have you among us. Your area of interest sparks my childhood memories of those very exciting times during the early space program.

Feel free to send in articles featuring your models.....I'd love to see them on the ARC homepage.....we need more space models on the gallery section.

Once again....welcome.

Thanks. I have many memories also. My father was an engineer for Marion Power Company who built and supported the LUT at the Cape. Most of my childhood years were spent at the Cape where my father worked. I visited the LUT many times during the Apollo era with my father and witnessed the Apollo 15,16,17 launches from the viewing area with my Family. My father was a friend of Gene Cernan and I was actually named after him. The Apollo era was a time that installed enthusiasm in our whole country.

Cheers, Gene

Hiya Gene,

Good to have you around. I am mostly an X-planes guy but I also enjoy realspace with a preference for the Gemini program and early shuttle era.

I also float around the other parts of ARC as my scree-name might suggest with some WW2 and navair interests and yes even the occaisional armor subject.

Anyway can't wait to see some your work. There are some great guys to watch and maybe to learn from too in this section of ARC!

Regards

Zach

Retractable landing gears -- can't wait to see those! Looking forward to the 1/32. And I'll patiently wait for the 1/16 -- what led you to decide on this scale by the way? I once started a 1/18 but after seeing how big it will be with the descent stage on I shifted to a 1/10 with only the ascent stage. It didn't look too big on paper but as it took shape in plastic it became monstrous and difficult to photograph. I have to stand back quite a bit to take a good shot without barrel distortion. So now I want to go back to 1/18 somehow.

Hi, I decided on 1/16 scale as it is twice the size of 32 scale. Just makes sense to me. 1/16 scale is big and I would not to go any bigger. If you go 1/16 scale you can buy the parts from Shapeways as Vincent Meens offers them for sale. It will save a lot of scratch building work.Another reason I settled on 1/16 scale.

Cheers, Gene
