  1. It looks like a hole. When you swing the windscreen assembly upward, the thing that fills that hole stays behind. Maybe a latch. Look how “not black” the glare shield is in there. Start with Deck Tan and smudge it up with some dirty black. I believe I also saw a video where a modeler showed that the kit glare shield has completely different holes than the real thing. Maybe those have changed over time.
  2. They have had quite a few challenges with their new house. This was Dave's FB post on May 16: If there is one negative to our move, it is the loss of a lot of space! The old house was much bigger, and everything had a place. It has been a constant state of chaos here trying to figure out where to put all of our stuff. To top it off, we still have two storage units in Marietta with more furniture and boxes! Our dining room table is set up on the front porch! Might be time for a yard sale, build a shed or have a bonfire..... Anyway, work on the new office and pro
  3. The Tamiya F-14. When that kit came out I couldn't believe it, and it continues to impress [and obsess] me with the follow-on kits plus aftermarket and decals. I really should have picked a less complex airplane to love that still had great kits available. Even though the kit is spectacular, it still takes me a long time to get one done - I'm no "Phantom"! It's like a favorite song - just never gets old.
  4. Check out D-Ran’s build of the Meng F-4E: certainly looks like a great-building kit.
  5. Hello, all, I made a mistake in applying the decals on my Eduard Mirage IIICJ - the Profipack kit, #8102. Specifically, I applied a decal to the bottom of the wing when it was supposed to go on top. So, I’m looking for either the entire kit or just the decal sheet from the kit with the yellow and black recognition triangles. Thanks, Andrew
  6. I don’t even have the kit yet, but I already have the 3D printed Phase Hangar intake set. It’s very good - includes all of the perforations on the inside of the intake ring, plus really sweet new fans with separate centers. The one downside of the PH set is that the intakes had to be printed upside down (I don’t know why but I’m sure for good reason), so the lip of the intake has to be cleaned up just like sprue attachments on injection molded parts. You’re right - it’s strange how most 1/48 A-10 kits just get the depth wrong.
  7. I think you did not view the video or you would have seen the rivets on the tail boom and stabilizers. Honestly, why take the time to post when you have absolutely no information?
  8. I’m planning to do both. I have the Hobby Boss A in progress and will finish that in the lizard scheme, and will get the Academy kit and do it in grays.
  9. Wow - one piece molds of the engine pods, the tailcone, and of the rear fuselage. Given the quality of the molding and surface detail on their 1/72 F-14 and 1/144 B-1B, this should be fun. This ain’t your daddy’s Academy. https://youtu.be/XwDxi2OYF-s
  10. I think that some of the enthusiasm for a B model may be because Tamiya hasn’t done one yet, and it’s the next logical step. The B was a particularly interesting variant of the F 14, just because it fixed the biggest issue that the aircraft had carried forth from its development stage. It was quite a game changer — and quite a surprise for some Air Force pilots, to hear Dave Parsons tell it — when the cat got the “big motors“! I am eager to see what GWH comes up with, but at the same time, it will be very hard for them to compete with Tamiya. Even though Tamiya doesn’t even have a B b
  11. There are lots of good alternatives to MM. Thousands of modelers get great results with Gunze, MRP, AK Real Color, MCW, Mission, Tamiya, True North, or whatever they are using. So, when a modeler says XXX paint sucks because he or she had a bad experience, I take that with a grain of salt. (I never did get comfortable with MM Acryl...) I also would like Tamiya quality with FS colors. For that purpose I would go with MRP, AK Real Color, or Gunze, but my local shop doesn't do those brands. So I get what I can locally and supplement with MRP and AK.
  12. 60% of my kits have been started. The only issue I have with this is when I open a kit that I worked on five years ago and don't like the quality of the work. I have taken to writing down paint colors on the instruction sheet so I can remember what I used. Modeling is aspirational, which means I buy a kit when I already have 100 and I open one up when another is already open. I treat my stash like a library and take things off the shelf at will to look at or work on. Love this hobby!
  13. I’m ready to call this done. I could keep picking at it forever, but it’s time to finish something else. The second blade antenna on the spine appears to have made the jump to lightspeed, so I'll have to fix that. The intake lips were missing in these photos but they are there now. I decided to go pretty "factory fresh" on this one. 14. Hello, Rob, The XF-85 reference was published in the October 1975 issue of the West Michigan IPMS newsletter. Back then, references were much more difficult to find than they are now, and club newsletters frequently included such research. I have every newsletter from that club dating back to Vol. 1 No. 1 in 1973. Not that I was there - I was 4 years old at the time, but I am now in my second term as president of that club. Sorry you don’t like our FB page. Please send your donation to defray 5 years of website hosting costs to West MI IPMS, and we’ll get a website cre
  15. Great listening if you want more gouge on the F-14’s strike capability. Episodes 14 and 16 especially. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/f-14-tomcast/id1585680868?i=1000554096578
