phantom
Started this one a couple days ago. But my computer has been down. So here is the open box, which shows the 1/48 Hasegawa F-18F, the conversion to F-18G resin from Steel Beach. Also thinking of using the resin fuel tanks, resin seats, resin resin.......Lots of resin. So after two days its currently looking like this........
tosouthern66
Hey Phantom The way you build we need to handicap you by 2 months so we can catch up with you! lol Can't wait to see the finished project!
phantom
Next comes the 50 pounds of resin.....
Neo
good progress. its the first time i see someone install painted landing gear before the main air frame painting! care to share some shots on the masking prior to paint ? Edited July 25, 2014 by Neo
phantom
No shots to share. I paint them white on the sprue. Turn the sprue around and paint the outside grey. Let it dry and get out a tiny brush and old school paint the red. Much easier to me having doors and gear pre painted. On rare occasion I may need to touch up overspray in the final paint but not too often.
Neo
Hey phantom . I meant masking of the lg before you paint the rest of the model. Since its intalled
phantom
Don't mask that either. I hold a piece of card board with one hand to block paint from the air brush from hitting the gear. I keep modelling simple which I guess saves a lot of time.

Thadeus
That's gonna be one nice Growler :) Probably done already too ;) I'd love those markings in 1/72 :)
phantom
Not done, but 90% of the resin is on now. Only problem is my kit is missing a couple parts. One of the ejection seats which is not a problem as I all ready started resin seats. It is also missing both exhaust nozzels. Which is also not a problem as I have resin replacements too. Had planned on using them for another project but oh well.
phantom
With all this resin, it is one heavy model.
phantom
What do you think, kit ladder up or down?
Devilleader501
If you haven't glued the horizontal stabs in and can reposition them to sag to the rear then put the ladder down. If not then I don't know. Hornet control surfaces as far as I have seen usually are in a relaxed position. Ailerons flaps and horizontal stabs. The question is what do you think. Devilleader501
Oh and dude you slam models together faster than a kit house put together down here. Even with resin. Not sure what you do for a living but damn you have a lot of free time or are obsessed with cranking out kits. Does your wife hate you yet lol. J/k
Neo
What do you think, kit ladder up or down? I would say down.

I will sag the tail a bit.. For the other questions, No Boss does not hate me this week. Its my scheduled 10 days off, as I work more then 40 hours a week. Every 5 something months they have to even out our hours. Of course DURING those 10 days I worked 48 hours OT, Fixed the cars, bought a new tent trailer , laundry all the house stuff and drove they kids from one end of our county to the other. So I have been busy. I do have sleep issues and do not sleep much, so I have to do something at 4 am. The model has received maybe 2 to 3 hours a day when no one was home. Today everything is done. No one wants to go out at all except for groceries. So hopefully I can start the paint today. Edited July 26, 2014 by phantom
