Crazy Snap Captain
Hi, Does anyone have a close up pic of the late type ECS pipes on a Super Hornet? Trawled through the net without much luck and gave up after 30 odd pages on the Super Hornet parking lot. Thanks in advance.
ChippyWho
Will these do you? Late ECS 1 Late ECS 2 (I'm linking to Photobucket as I can't recall where these originated; don't want to sully our rep with property issues!) Should you be pondering an upgrade, I can confirm that the Quickboost 1/48 resin set replicates the 'cheese grater' holes nicely... HTH. Crazy Snap Captain
Thanks Chip, That's exactly what I was after. I've got the QB resin bits. So I basically have to sand them to within a micrometer of their lives as they seem to come pretty much flush with the fuselage?
ChippyWho
Thanks Chip, That's exactly what I was after. I've got the QB resin bits. So I basically have to sand them to within a micrometer of their lives as they seem to come pretty much flush with the fuselage? Errr...yeeeess; but could be a major chore and would still leave 'em proud of the airframe -to me, they look totally flush with the surface. Check the second photo on this page of JesniF-16's awesome Superbug build. I can't dis the project, but that bit doesn't work for me. Also, the actual resin vents are painfully thin, so sanding the back would be way risky: there isn't much to hold on to & put pressure down. Admittedly I haven't come near starting my Littel Precious yet, but my vague plan was to use the resin bits to fix an outline on the fuselage, chain-drill around it and remove the plastic, file as needed then superglue the blighters flush and sand/re-scribe everything to oblivion. If I ever get near building the thing, I'll message you from the Secure Unit and let you know how it went... Edited July 21, 2014 by ChippyWho
Crazy Snap Captain
Chippy, Thanks for the idea! I just did it on my current build for the Hornet GB. Here's the link. Turned out nice. Still a bit of filling to do but the pipes now sit pretty much flush as per the ref pics you supplied. Many thanks again!
ChippyWho
Ho Yeah! That looks like a WIN to me. Much thanks for breaking trail for me! Somehow I missed your build thread (asleep at the wheel again), but will follow with interest now I'm plugged in. You have the same kit as mine, the Royal Maces/Eagles boxing -just ordered the Rhino intakes thru eBay. Mine is destined for the 2012(?) Dambusters CAG scheme (Afterburner)....maybe!
