Canada deploying to Poland / Ukraine

Recommended Posts

Wow, Canada is sending 6 CF-18s and advisors to Poland for NATO in relation to the Ukraine.

6 may not seem like a lot of aircraft to you Americans but that is around 10% of our fighter force!!!

A similar statement has been published by german news agencies that Germany will send 6 Typhoons to eastern Europe.

However, they will only supplement the 4 portuguese F-16s which are part of the scheduled NATO air policing in the baltic regions from September, 1st.

As soon as CanadaEh is involved, i am sure there shall be peace and free hugs for everyone. :)/>

If anyone can scare the Rooski's into submission, it's 13% of Canada's frontline fighter force.

Good luck lads and....

As I'm sure Stephen Harper and most Canadian ARC posters know, all politics is local.

Canada has the third largest Ukrainian population in the world, after Ukraine and Russia. Ukrainians are in the top ten most populous ethnic minorities, and the demographics are skewed even more in their favor in the prairie provinces, such as Mr. Harper's native Alberta. If I'm not mistaken, most Canadian Ukrainians are of Galician/Ruthenian descent (i.e. Western Ukrainians). I would have thought the deployment is a no-brainer for the PM. Next Federal election is due within 18 months, right?

We only sent 18 jets to the Balkans, had the smallest fighter force (2% of the force) there, yet we dropped 10% of the bombs.

60 or so fighters for all of Canada and its NATO commitments? Ridiculous. I guess they feel a token force is sufficient with the USA just to their south.

Don't blame or belittle those of us who serve or have served for Canada. We don't set the numbers for our equipment. when we do deploy we get noticed.

Our military has a long and distinguished history which we gained on our own. We are not a token force.

doh.gifis the only thing that i can do when i think that those Reformists are my governmentdoh.gif

LindenHill is right... its only for the next election... unless it is for proving them right to have chosen the F-35? -"that would have not happened if those CF-188 where having stealth technology...we the canadians, won't forget those brave pilots..."

anyway, i'm pretty sure this thread will turn political... oh, yeah, it's already political!

This is for truth. I remember many an exercise n back in the 80s. Against the American units we always came out on top unit vs unit. Even when attached to a reserve unit we won. We may not get the cool gear, even more true back in the 80s but we knew how to do the job.

We need to make a new advertising campaign. "Canada Kicks A$$. Proving it since 1812."

You nailed it. Canada was also the first country in the world to formally recognize an independent Ukraine in 1991.

A deployment like this proves the requirement for the best technology protecting our men and women. The vast majority of people I know in the current CF-18 community support the F-35.

I don't know, had he not done anything he would have been criticized too.

What everyone is forgetting is what is happening in Ukraine has not been democratic and fair. Putin is flexing his dictatorial powers.

This is more of a strong message and protest than a military action.
