Brian P: Fightertown Decals
We missed IPMS Nats this year but we are gearing up for a couple new releases. I thought since it's Friday, I'd give a little preview of one of the sheets. Other than Jolly Rogers, this is the biggest request we've had. And with our double sheet sets format, this seemed like a perfect chance to bring back, improve and expand on the VF-101 Grim Reapers subject. Enjoy. Release details to follow later in the month. -brian

Alleycat
Too bad about 90-95% of all new decal releases are 1/48. I have wanted the Black Leopard A-6 markings for years now. When these are available in 1/72 I will buy both. Not before.
Spectre711
Any thoughts on issuing this sheet in 1/72 Brian?

dmk0210
Looks like a beautiful set, but I'm confused. What's up with the other squadron markings on a VF-101 sheet? Are they options for those squadrons or was there some commemorative/sunset thing going on with the Grim Reaper aircraft. Edited August 16, 2014 by dmk0210

Are they options for those squadrons or was there some commemorative/sunset thing going on with the Grim Reaper aircraft. they were commemorative paint schemes. Shortly after the fleet drawdown in the mid 1990s, when the Tomcat fleet consolidated at NAS Oceana, VF-101 painted up a jet "in memory" of all the squadrons that were no longer in the Tomcat community, although I don't think it was comprehensive. dmk0210
Ah! Very cool. :)
skyhawk174
Wow interesting sheet. I am eagerly awaiting the profiles. Was not aware of the other squadron markings on the VF-101 aircraft. Sounds real cool. Had me wondering why VF-74 was on the sheet. Crap, yet another sheet to get. Too many decals, not enough time :(
Andre
I have wanted the Black Leopard A-6 markings for years now. Fujimi's Gentlemen's Scale KA-6D comes with VA-35 markings. HTH, Andre
a4s4eva
Excellent news Brian. the VF101 sheet is welcome for sure. I'm still kicking myself I sold the original one
strikeeagle801
That is a gorgeous, jam-packed sheet Brian! Wow. I'll probably be picking this one up, even though I don't have an F-14 in the stash at the moment, and both the "major" 1/48 scale kits scare me. Aaron

Manuel J. Armas S.
VF-101 and VF-142 together, is a dream come true...
Brian P: Fightertown Decals
As mentioned, the other squadrons are the dis-established squadrons that VF-101 did commemorative tails for. VF-1, VF-24, VF-51, VF-74, VF-111, VF-114 and VF-142 are the ones that we were able to work into the space. VF-21, VF-33 didn't make it. Each of these had 1, 2 or 3 airframes painted up and in some cases several variations. VF-101 switched from small AD outside tail to large AD inside rudder during this timeframe. I've documented at least 3 variations of the VF-1 jet. VF-33 had 3 different jets painted up, all different and so it goes. We picked what we thought were the best versions and best documented jets in some cases. If I'm correct, the sheet allows you to build 3 out of 22 options... profiles to follow. thanks, brian Edited August 17, 2014 by Brian P: Fightertown Decals
