PC12Driver
Hi All, Can't seem to eyeball the landing gear and wheel well color on a current Marine Corp CH-53E. Any and all help would be appreciated. Thanks, WARDOG From what I know & have seen, 95% of all naval aircraft have gloss-white gear & wells. This looks like the well is the same as the fuse. http://ts1.mm.bing.net/th?&id=HN.608053788971172041&w=306&h=300&c=0&pid=1.9&rs=0&p=
kap64
CH-53E usually are painted the same gray in the wheel wells as the outside of the airframe.
Timmy!
100% are airframe color. There are no doors on the main gear and the nose doors only cover 1/2 the well. White wells would stand out. Also there is very little plumbing so glossy white wells are of limited value anyway. Timmy!
Check Six
Very interesting. And noted!
Glynn Jacobs
Thanks Gents, I had been looking for a decent pic like this one to make a better call on the color. Looks like the gear well is the light gray of the fuselage with the gear having the the top portion the same color and the bottom portion in medium blue/gray. I'll look around to see if its the same on the main gear and on other birds. Appreciate it, WARDOG
kap64
When I worked at the DEPOT, it would leave with the wheels painted gray too. When we ordered them, they came in black or white and we had to paint them gray when the aircraft went to final finish. So, in theory, you could even paint them black and tell everyone they were just replaced. The gears should be all one color. The only reason it would be different if it got touched up or the lighting conditions. They don't paint then two colors intentionally. Here's a pic I took of the main gear.
