Yeah, it was posted a couple months ago over on KOTF, although I hadn't seen pics of the actual plastic or the Star Destroyer though. It appears that the Turret Cannon comes with the A-Wing.

I'm waiting for a 1/72 B-wing as well...

I think it was nominally 1/48. As with any SW kit though, that comes with a big pinch of salt, and a lot of wiggle room.

Although I suppose the A Wing should be the easiest kit to scale out. Just measure the shooting miniature then scale it out to the F-14's wing gloves. Though I'd assume they used the Tamiya or Revell 1/32 kits for the parts.

Easiest to scale out if you are trying to do a studio model replica. But the glove vanes on an F-14 are not going to be the same size if they are appropriated as details on a totally different model which is represented as being much smaller (hence a much bigger pilot figure sitting in the cockpit).

IMO, that's the only way to do it. Scale a particular kit off of a particular studio miniature - there's far too much variance between different scale miniatures, miniatures and full scale props, and 'official' measurements that change every other year.

It's not 1/72 of a hypothetical, 'real' A-Wing, it's a 1/2 scale model of the prop.

I could be completely wrong, but it looks like the figure is too small.

Are we talking about the Bandai model? To me, the studio model of the A-Wing always seemed to be a bit off in terms of the pilot figure (or rather "head") they had for it. Studio scale builders have interpreted that pilot as canon, even though for the most part only the head seems to peak out through the cockpit canopy as every other part of the body seems smashed into the fuselage like he's driving a soap box racer. How does one even get into a fighter like that easily? Even a short 1950s RAF pilot in a Folland Gnat to me might have trouble getting into an A-Wing if it really is that small. But, if one is building a studio model replica, it is the more accurate approach since that is what the original model used.

The other pilot figure size shown was the one found in the MPC A-Wing kit (about 1/48 to 1/55th ish scale depending on which LFL document you believed) and a lot of modelers felt he looked too small. To me the MPC pilot looked slightly small, but it seemed more in keeping with the cockpit set piece seen in Jedi. For Episode 8, we are going to be seeing a fighter which is A-Wing based, although it looks to be more like the original Ralph MacQuarrie artist renderings than one based on the ROTJ studio model.

Looking at one of the images of Bandai's buildup, they seem to be going with a roomier cockpit, meaning a proportion probably closer to the published LFL dimensions of a "full size" A-Wing scaled down to 1/72. Since it is a licensed product, that is what they have to do rather than coming up with an arbitrary size. Personally I think I can live with that. The figure in there certainly looks a lot better than what we've had before.

EDIT: I just crunched the numbers. Given length in the Bandai instructions of the A-Wing model is 133mms. Multiplying that by 72 I get 9.576 meters for the "full size" A-Wing. The old West End Games Star Wars RPG gives a length of 9.6 meters, so it seems LFL (even run by Disney) is still using that length to this day. I know LFL re-calculated the size of the Millennium Falcon after FineMolds did their kits (which is why Bandai's 1/144 kit is about 10% larger than the FM 1/144 kit), but most of the other ships in the SW universe for the most part seem to be continuing to use the West End dimensions.

This again is GREAT NEWS....

Sorry if I hurt some feelings, but from a former Disney employee when they used to be really cool and not wanting money to fart...

Suck it Mickey Mouse!

Love the Bandai kits! Ebay and Amazon has been my go to places...

Thats pretty much a must have. It would be awesome to just be able to buy a bunch of different bases....

I don't like the base to be honest. I will change mine when I buy that kit. Ideally, I want to attach to the base that Finemolds provides. Anyone have a 1:72 Finmolds X-wing display base they don't want? :)
