EX_Birdgunner
Hey everyone, I recently got by mail the 1/700 Trumpeter USS Dwight D. Eisenhower to add to my 1/720 RoG USS Carl Vinson that I had in my stash. I plan to start building the Vinson really soon and follow up with the Eisenhower, capitalizing on what I learned from the former. My question is what are good references to use? I found these books but the Osprey one is most recent. Which one is this the better reference to have and are there others? http://store.spruebrothers.com/product_p/ospv174.htm http://store.spruebrothers.com/product_p/squb05606.htm Thanks, Denis
niart17
Haven't been to this site in a while but there is some great walk-around style references here. http://www.carrierbuilders.net/ As a matter of fact the first walkwaround in the carrier group is the Ike and it is pretty extensive! also, though not the exact carrier you're building, this site has some great photos that can help with some general carrier features and operataions. http://www.airshowaction.com/nimitz/page1.html There are a lot of pages so you have to dig, but it definately gives some good reference. Hope that can be of use to you. Good luck! Bill Edited October 12, 2012 by niart17

Does anyone know which of the above books I linked are best? I will probably order one soon but would like to start with the best. Lae519
Hi Dennis, I would go with the Squadron book. Most of the osprey books,(while great for some other things) seem to glaze over the details when dealing with this type of subject. Also have you seen the Still motion Photo CD's produced by Ray Bean? Have toms of great photos with the modeller in mind. http://www.stillmotionsphotographics.com/-/stillmotionsphotographics/gallery.asp?cat=27957&pID=1&row=15 just my 2cents.. larry Edited September 26, 2013 by Lae519
Rich in name only
A great site is navysite.de which has cruise books including Vinson. Lots of interesting detail in the photos. For equipment and aircraft multiple books of different ships help but there's nothing like a collection of photos at the time desired. The site is a bit tricky to navigate but has a lot more info, including other ship types. Besides, that F-117 thread lingering as latest in a ship forum is starting to bug me so this gets ships back on ships.
