F-16
I am looking for a good 1/48 Cobra kit to build. I am looking at either the Monogram 1/48 AH-1F Cobra, or the 1/48 Italeri AH-1W Super Cobra. I tried a search here and on ARC, but did not find any good build reviews on these kits. So what are they like to build? Problems? I know the Monogram has raised panel lines but what about the Italeri kit? I also think the Monogram would be an easier build(?). Any other info/advise on these kits would help me in choosing which to buy. Thanks. Scott CNJC-IPMS P.S. Please don't recommend the Kitty Hawk kit. I'm not willing to spend that much on a Cobra. Scott, Besides the KH, the Monongram 1/48 AH-1F is the most accurate 1/48 Cobra OOB on the market, plus it is cheap. Add a few Werner's Wings goodies and you can build a show stopper. hawkwrench
I've got a Monogram Cobra kit I'll sell to you. PM me if you want it. IIRC, it's unopened. Tim

F-16
Has anyone here built these kits? I need to know how they build and any problems they might have. Thanks for the offers. Scott CNJC-IPMS
Floyd S. Werner, Jr.
Has anyone here built these kits? I need to know how they build and any problems they might have. Thanks for the offers. Scott CNJC-IPMS I've built the Monogram kit and it is impressive out of the box. Here is the article on ARC: http://www.arcair.com/Gal11/10301-10400/gal10370-AH-1-Werner/00.shtm Yes I own Werner's Wings so I used my decals and resin things. It is impressive either way. I have the Italeri kit but haven't built it yet. I do know that they got the rotor blades on backwards. After that I can't speak to the fit. Check out all these Cobra builds here on ARC. http://www.arcair.com/Gal-Archives/helicopters/AH-1-Cobra/01.shtm Note there are two pages. Floyd

anvil6
Has anyone here built these kits? I need to know how they build and any problems they might have. Thanks for the offers. Scott CNJC-IPMS I have built and enjoyed both, which you can see here: AH-1F - http://imodeler.com/2015/04/monogram-ah-1f-cobra-4th-squadron-2nd-armored-cavalry-regiment-desert-storm-1991/ AH-1W - http://imodeler.com/2014/11/148-scale-italeri-ah-1w-cobra-glamoc-gunnery-range-bosnia-herzegovina-1998/ as noted above, the Monogram kit is a winner right out of the box, and at a very great price. Its very accurate and fits pretty good out of the box, and I can also personally recommend Werner's Wings products for their high quality. if you want a AH-1F in 1/48, this is your kit! the italeri AH-1W does not fit as good but is not horrible. The price is comparable to the Monogram one, and you can probably find a good deal on amazon for it. accuracy wise, its more like an AH-1T or a very, very early Whiskey cobra. if accuracy is a big thing to you, you will need to do some updating, but nothing that is too difficult or that will suck the fun out of the build. The rotor blades are molded on backwards, and I suspect (but am not sure) that the tail rotor blades might be backwards as well. The nose is incorrect for a modern whiskey, as are the skids and the oil cooler, but again, nothing that some basic modeling skills can't take care of. if you want a 1/48 scale AH-1W, this is your winner by default, but with a little effort, this can also be made into something really nice. I hope this helps and i look forward to seeing your Cobras! Cheers! -Ramon
