Great Wall Mig-29 9-12 Late Type

Recommended Posts

I have this kit listed on e-bay and I'm surprised at how many people are contacting me from countries outside the U.S. asking (persistently) for me to agree to ship outside of the U.S. So this makes me wonder about the availability of this kit. Is it scarce or out of production. We're talking about modern countries, not third world or war-torn countries. I checked and I don't see it in a few quick searches at some of the usual online retailers, but I haven't gotten too detailed with my searches.

Thanks,

Mike Todd

I think the Luftwaffe one was a "Limited edition" Its got all the corrected parts.

I thought only the very first run of the late 9-12 had incorrect parts, and all boxings of the 9-12 - standard and Luftwaffe- has the right parts?

The initial 9-13 box also had the incorrect parts.

I don't think they re-released the late 9-12 though. All I can find in my LHS are the early ones.

But it does makes sense as, IIRC, the early 9-12 kit has the parts to make a late 9-12.

I thought the 9-13 was correct, how do I tell if I don't have corrected parts in mine?

Okay, here's the deal with the GWH Mig-29 9-12s (as explained to me not too long ago here on this forum).

The first release of the 9-12 Late kit was the original kit with the incorrect parts (this one has never been re-released and is now OOP).

The 9-12 Early kit has new tooled corrected parts.

The 9-12 Late with Luftwaffe markings (this is the limited edition kit) has all the corrected parts.

And, as far as I know, the 9-13 has correct parts. Never heard of that one coming out with wrong parts.

Damn! I just checked my 9-13 and it seems I have the incorrect tanks. :bandhead2:/> Is it massively noticeable? What about the missile rails? Would Eduard be an option?

If it required a thread like this to make you aware of it, then I'm going say that no, it's not massively noticeable!

I believe it's part numbers 61 & 62 - the lower aft engine nacelle parts - were corrected as well as the tanks and pylons. On the original release there were some small intake scoops that were like 2mm too far forward.

The first releases of the 9-12 late actually had the 9-13 fuselage, which is a much bigger deal than the size of some rarely-carried wing tanks.

Huh? I've got a 9-12 (the very first release) and it's a 9-12.

At a point in the production cycle they mixed up and had 9.13 fuselage instead on 9.12 in the 9.12 late boxing. But it wasn't right at the start of 9.12 late production, a bit later on. It was fairly quickly sorted out and those that got 9.13 fuselage could of course get it replaced.

Oh I seem to remember that now that you mention it. I just got my 9-12 last year, so it was a later boxing. Also got the limited edition German boxing. It includes changed antennas to reflect the NATO standard avionics fit.

Comparison photos for your perusal.

Pylons. Old parts above, corrected parts below.

Wing tanks. Old parts on the left, corrected parts on the right. Engine parts are the same.

I was at my LHS yesterday and managed to check some of the kits that were in stock. It seems that the later batches of 9-13 kits have the correct tanks and pylons.

Mark, how can you/I tell which batches of the GWH 9-13 have the correct parts? I'll be purchasing one soon and I'd like to get it right.

Thanks!

Rob
