I'd like to throw my hat in the ring by building the Hasegawa 1/72 F-4EJ kit with Model Alliance decals for the Good Bye Okinawa markings. I really like them with the bright green spine and tail. I have some resin seats and Eduard cockpit zoom PE to jazz it up a bit. I'm just getting started so here are some photos of the kit and decals. More to follow as I have some progress. I like the Oceanic paint scheme on the F-4EJ and those Japanese ASM-1 missiles are really different looking underneath. I did a little research on the aircraft I am building and the only pictures I have seen of it are with drop tanks and empty rails under the wings. Now I want to do another model in the Oceanic paint with the load out in your picture! Well, I got in gear and finished the PE zoom in the cockpit tub and instrument panels. It looks a lot better than the kit decals in my opinion. I am going to press on with the build and work on the resin seats while stuff is drying. Here's the first in progress photo. Thanks, White Wolf. Those are great photos of the aircraft. I will plan on the AAM-3 for my build. I see the Hasegawa Japanese JASDF weapons set has them. Thanks, lodni_k! I really liked the picture you posted of the oceanic F-4EJ with the ASM-1 anti-shipping missiles. I found that Tower Hobbies has the Hasegawa kit in the paint scheme on sale so I ordered it and the Japanese weapons set from them. I will use the AAM-3 for this build and have the ASM-1 for the oceanic F-4EJ. If anyone else is interested here is the link for the F-4 kit at Tower Hobbies. I am using Tamiya Basic Putty. It's my first time trying it and it sands pretty good. Being modular there are a lot of seams on this kit but the fit is pretty good so far. I think things are ready for some paint. I put one coat on already and did some more seam touch up afterwards. Here's where it stands now. Tom G Posted October 24, 2014 Author Share Posted October 24, 2014 Further progress...the major painting is done. I used Gunze Mr. Color for the two grays and Tamiya for the green. This was my first time using Gunze and I really like it. It has good coverage and with the leveling thinner it really dries smooth and is very durable. For the grays I enlarged the painting instructions and cut them out for patterns while airbrushing. I need to paint the radome and exhaust area next. Can't wait to get to decalling! Tom G Posted December 19, 2014 Author Share Posted December 19, 2014 All done. This was a really fun build. It tested me a bit with the unusual paint scheme which took some time. The stencils on the aircraft took about 10 hours to put on too. I used Gunze Mr. Color for the grays, Tamiya for the green, and Alclad for the exhaust area. I just noticed I managed to put two different nozzle types on. I'll have to fix that later. Anyhow, I used the JASDF weapons set for the AAM-3 missiles. Thanks to the moderators for doing this GB, it gave me the incentive to build this model. There are so many colorful paint schemes for the JASDF. I have enjoyed all the other models in this GB. I love the paint scheme, and how you achieved the discoloration of the grey paint on the fuselage sides is great work! I know all about thee stenciling, I thought I'd never reach the end of putting them on my RF-4E that's in-progress. Looking forward to seeing more of your work in the future!
