ikar
One day we were told to go to the base theater for a briefing, and be in uniform. About 50, more or less waited until the doors opened and we took whatever seat we wanted, within reason. No way in the back. I ended up about 3rd row center with the overhead projector slightly o the left. A briefer, probably from S.A.C intel got up and started explaining the capabilities of the B-52 and KC-135. He explained how the Skyspot system worked and showed us photos of three mountains covered with typical jungle terrain. After explaining there was a enemy camp or concentration point there, he showed us those same mountains after they were done bombing it. There was literally not a tree standing and from what I could tell, not much dirt left either. He said that as far as damaged aircraft went, who needs the enemy, we have the flight line teams. He then went on to explain a few of the more costly accidents out there. At this point I'm starting to wonder if this briefing has anything to do with them sending almost half our squadron north to re-open a base. A couple weeks later I was on mid shift when the shooting started.
