Do I recall some mention of doing the F-35's light grey RAM panels as decals? I have the wonderful Academy F-35A near to paint, but simply can't face the prospect of all that masking when I have a Hasegawa kit with it all done as decals that I could probably have done and dusted in half the time! SO back in the box it goes pending some willpower or made-to-measure decals for the RAM.

Sorry, I missed your post when I logged in briefly yesterday.

I am indeed working on a sheet for F-35 panels, but only for the Kitty Hawk 1/48 kits for the time being. It is a frustrating and time consuming project beyond belief-partially because there are so many made-up panel lines on the KH kits that do not exist on the real airplane. How do you handle a panel that does not really exist - should I go ahead and make a decal for it anyway, or ask the modeler to sand off that panel from the kit? Either choice has consequences.

To be quite honest, none of the 1/72 kits are on my radar screen until I finish at least one 1/48 F-35 panel sheet, which should be in the next couple of months. But I will go ahead and order the kit today - who knows, if it is more accurate I might even prioritize it.

Speaking personally, the Academy kit is the best F-35 in any scale currently available. I REALLY Like the Hasegawa kit for it's simplicity and lack of fussiness, it's almost a "quick build" style model but with Hasegawa's moulding qualities. But the Academy kit is simply superb. And no dumb raised panels for the ram - it's all incredibly petite, and if you found any inaccuracies you could easily say "just lay down a coat of Mr Surfacer over the panel in question and carry on with the decals"

I'll cross my fingers that you take one look at the Academy kit and say to yourself "and WHY am I wasting time on the others?!?" ;)
