Aggressor01
This conversion weighs in at $146 from HLJ. Spendy but it sooks really sweet. Has anyone tackled this kit? I've got limited time building armor. However I will say that my Merkava mk4 by hobby boss (75% complete) has been a challenging pleasure to build. I would really like to try a complex build like the USMC ABV. Any info on this conversion or any other great kits would be appreciated.
ziggyfoos
I had the DEF conversion in my wishlist with SprueBros since it was released but like you, the $150 price was holding me back. (Plus of course you'll need the Abrams donor kit if you don't already have one in the stash). There were two ABVs on display at the Cherry Pt airshow a couple months ago and after seeing them there I knew I was going to buy the conversion when I got home (I did). But other than oogling over it I haven't worked on it yet. It's a lot of resin. Someday I hope to get to it, or Dragon will release an actual kit of it by then. If you're limited on armor, maybe just start off with the Abrams kit built as is? The Dragon M1A1 AIM and M1A2 SEP kits are the best out there. Armorama has several posts on the DEF ABV conversion if you haven't checked it out yet. Here's just one to see what you get in the conversion: http://www.armorama.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=SquawkBox&file=index&req=viewtopic&topic_id=206126&ord=&page=
Aggressor01
Thanks Steve. I've wanted to build an Abrams since the mid 90s. Then I saw one with a mine plow. That's the one I've been holding out for. I have been aware of the ABV for some time now but hadn't put any thought into building one until this week. The armorama one looks nice, but I think I'm hung up on the DEF conversion. I've got plenty of stuff to work on while I chew on the price of this thing. Anyway, I'll definately post a thread here when I decide to bite the bullet.
HeavyArty
Here is a build of the DEF Model set at Armorama. It looks pretty nice.
