CD48085 - Vipers against Terror

Recommended Posts

CD48085 will be a 1/48 sheet covering F-16s from Egypt and Jordan (including markings for the ill-fated Jordanian F-16AM serial 149); members of the coalition against the ISIS horror "state".

Good. I'd love to build a certain F-16 to honour a certain person.

Ill-fated? F-16AM 149 is alive and kicking....

I believe both Air Forces Monthly and F-16.net gave the serial number as 149 (80-3569), although I was away from my notes when I posted the announcement and could have been mistaken. If you have concrete information on how you confirmed this aircraft as alive and kicking I would be interested in seeing it.

Yes, one guy tweeted this serial number and then it went viral, quoted for truth everywhere. I'm telling you it wasn't 149 and now it is up to you who you believe. I wish I could share more info.

Don't get me wrong; I'd love to build Muath Al-Kasasbeh's jet (in 1/72) just to honor him.

A generic set of Arab numbers in Jordanian F-16 font could solve this for now .

That may be a better choice for a multitude of reasons, I was not going to put any mention of the jet or the event on the instructions or web site anyway. Of course this means I have to digits for Egyptian jets too.

We can only believe if we have evidence to believe in, what makes you so sure it wasn't 149?

What real evidence do you have that it was 149? If Pollie says it wasn't 149 then, knowing a bit about his background, I have no reason not to believe him.

This should be easy enough to solve:

1) If 149 is still flying, does anyone have recent photos?

2) If 149 was not shot down, then what tail # was?

Rather than preparing for a flame war that noone wins, please help Kursad along with details that - without violating OPSEC - can be used to verify what Viper went down?

I suspected that 149 wasn't involved because the canopy found in Syria had a yellow tint - which 149 initially lacked.

Ofcourse everything is possible and 149 had it's canopy changed, but I haven't found any indication for that.

The only evidence I have is what has been widely reported which of course could very easily be wrong, but Pollie is adamant that it wasn't 149, so what makes him say this. To be so sure he must have concrete evidence.

Not not believing him or trying to flame him nor do I know his background just after the facts.

Both the Peace Vector anniversary and the latest slogan markings will be there on the sheet.

As for the RJAF F-16 - the serial number discussion is interesting; but ultimately does not matter. I started planning this sheet long before the RJAF F-16 went down, thanks to persistent encouragement from a friend among you. I now think providing a serial for the lost RJAF jet will not be in good taste - let me just provide a set of generic serials so you can build whichever one you'd like.

I wouldnt speak up if I wasn't sure. I like Kursad's choice of subjects and was trying to prevent him from releasing a decal sheet containing incorrect information without myself releasing too much information that shouldn't be released..... :)/>/>

It is up to you if you believe what has been widely reported (but originating from a single source), or some guy on a modeling forum stating it wasn't 149. You live in a free part of the world so the choice is yours.

So what a/c was lost then?

Kursad, not sure if this is something that you would want to follow, but when I built my Egyptian F4 a few years back I couldn't get Arabic numerals for life or death in either 72, 48 or 32 scale. Would it be a viable option for you to do a sheet consisting solely of numerals in various sizes and colours mainly White and Black?

Ok I will ask it, can someone translate what it says?

I have no idea, but I will have it translated and transcribed tonight by the same artist who will be doing the Egyptian slogan markings.

Looks like applied with chalk so you may have some issues Kursad?

Uh, Chris - I think the letters are about 1.5-2mm tall in 1/48. At that size the texture of chalk writing will be invisible. I am afraid I will not be able to live up to your high standards here, I will just give them as solid white lettering ;-)
