G_Marcat_Italy
Hello from Italy. I'm starting a new project, its based on the Monogram old F-8E Crusader: A preview: The set of wings will be taken from the old ESCI TORNADO 1/48 In the meantime I rescribed the fuselage and the tailplanes: the OLFA /Tamiya scriber is very aggressive in the cut but at leat it produce very neat engraves: over this modified the tail zone removing a groove The removal of this groove is necessary for to insert the exhaust assembly at the end of the building otherwise is necessary to protect the exhaust during the painting. This modify was applied after to have read in internet a lot of precious building reports of the old Monogram CRUSADER. The second modifications done is on the assembly of the original exhaust from Monogram, but the exhaust lack of the variable geometry petals on the nozzle. Another modeler has solved this problem on the his F-8 adding at the Monogram exhaust's a piece of nozzle taken from a Monogram HORNET, so I did the same: This is the result: Ok, it's not as AIRES would do, but.... other news as soon as possible. G_Marcat_Italy
today put again the hands on the VG Crusader with a big step forward: installed/glued the wings, from the TORNADO to the Crusader: I now have to blend in a credible way the wing's group to the fuselage. ChippyWho
Another Krazy Krusader! This will be a fine companion piece to the 'over & under' engined version, Sir. What next -a jet/rocket type like the SR.53? Always thought Le Crouze would be a natural for that: clipped wings; T-tail... I can't tell you how much I enjoy watching these things take shape! GreyGhost
This will be another fun and interesting build! Reminds me of the VG F-4 Phantom concept. -Gregg

2qwik4u
Love the VG idea, it should look really cool. ok, I will show you another Krazy Krusader next on the my bench: For some reason, when I saw the above picture, my mind immediately went to this: I would probably leave the wings with anhedral, and the stabs with dihedral, but I don't know what would look better, a shoulder mounted wing, or a mid to low mounted wing. -Dave

G_Marcat_Italy
With The Var.Wing Crusader I'm now in the putty fighting stage. applied a layer of Bondo red putty, sanding, then a layer of tamiya gray putty Today finally a test with Tamiya white surfacer from the spray can: the rear part where the wing enter in the fuselage need a lot of extra refining
TaiidanTomcat
Refinement or not, that is looking pretty darn great!!
G_Marcat_Italy
Hello, It's sunday, so I did something new on the VG Crusader. the past Sunday cut out the HUMP from the original wing assembly: The hump has been added to the Crusader VG new dorso and an indecent blob of Mr Surfacer 500 to cover all the imperfections: PS... added the tailplanes stolen from the ESCI's TORNADO. I did this choice because the original Crusader's tailplanes were too much small and do not match well (optically) to the new configuration of the Crusader.
Exhausted
Those tailplanes are a much better choice than the stock. Good work.
G_Marcat_Italy
Those tailplanes are a much better choice than the stock. Good work. Honestly, I don't like them too much because the new Tornados tailplanes made the my Crusader look a bit too much similar to the Tornado or the Mig23 but the original tailplanes were much out of places when coupled to the new wing assembly. ChippyWho
It looks superb; I don't think you could identify anything too closely with the Tornado. Also, take a look at LTV's full-size mock-up of a 'swinger' -part Tomcat, part Tiger? Edited November 3, 2014 by ChippyWho
