Good Uboat Model(s).

Recommended Posts

Well, all that talk in the "General Discussion" about U505 has created an interest in modeling a World War II German Uboat. I have read a great deal about the real Uboats but know pretty much nothing about the available models of them. So before I drop some coinage on a kit I figured I would ask folks who do know what their thoughts are.

I know the Revell 1/72 kit is sweet and sure would be nice. But it's pricey! So, aside from that kit, what is a good kit fit wise, detail wise, accuracy wise? What about aftermarket availability if applicable? I see that AFV, ICM, Revell, Trumpeter, and Hobby Boss make kits in 1/350 and 1/144. Either scale works for me. So...opinions...thoughts...?

All input greatly appreciated.

Thanks and regards,

Don.

I recently built the HB type VIIC, I thought it was a nice little kit, went together easy, basic PE.....not bad for the price.

I was actually looking at the HB Uboat kits. I remember yours from down in the ARC Shelf Queens GB (nice work again  ). I believe it's 1/350 which seems to be a fairly common scale in ship building. This works well should I wish to add other subs or ships over time.

Thanks for the input.

Regards,

Don.

There is a thread somewhere in the General Discussion board. Basically, any scale, type, nationality, civil or warship, as much or as little AM as you want. Things like LVT's and DUKW's are fine, they have hulls and underwater props, but no aircraft.
