breadneck
So i would like to know what is around in this scale for the LaGG-3 and what`s in the box. Another important thing i would like to find out is wheather i can build all the various "series" of this aircraft out of the "same" kit / mold. Not being certain exactly what series my KORA "special lighten version" is supposed to resemble, i do have two eastern express kits of the -66 type. So good fellows, what`s out there for us? PFlint
to build any of the early series I recommend the ICM/Toko/Roden kit. it has all the different variant part to build 5-gun , 4-gun and 2-gun LaGG's. different oil cooler parts and different tail-planes ,too. to build mid-production machines I recommend the Dakoplast kit. (may also be found in a MODELIST box) you can use the ICM/Toko/Roden kit for these, but you will have to sand down the exhaust baffle plates just below and behind the exhaust stacks as mid-production machines did not have these. I'm not familiar with the Kora kit. the reference to "special Lightened Version" probably means Tbilisi Oblegchenniy or Series 60-70 this is often called "Series 66" after the Voronin/Kolesnikov drawings. I believe Dakoplast did a "Series 66' kit but I do not have it. if you are lucky enough to have one of these please let us know what you think of it. the next fun part of this is determining what markings are for what version and what kit would best represent it. breadneck
Very frustrating having all these eastern european brands and what not just adding to the confusion. How are we supposed to know what molds we are buying? The fact that i possess two Eastern Express kits makes me no wiser. I am going to make a little effort here to straighten things out. Please feel free to contribute. When looking for LaGG-3 on ebay, here`s what i found: -Emhar (two part fuselages are molded "complete" with integrated rudder and exhausts. Prop assembly is also one piece) -Toko (-66 series, kit#144) -Toko (-very early series, kit #136. Open wheel bay/i.e. no wheel bay cast in lower wing, two separate rudders, drop tanks? optional canopies, optional upper wings?rockets?) -Roden (-66 series, seems to have three separate upper cowl panels, separate exhausts, two separate rudders and a three piece prop fool. kit #039) -Roden (-35 series, kit #038. Probably exact same mold as above series -66 kit. Present is four separate sprues incl. clear sprue) -Red Star (fuselage with integrated exhaust & rudder, one piece prop. Looks very basic) -Apex (separate rudder, four wheel bay door parts present, parked or in flight) -Mastercraft same as above -Alfa (separate rudder, one piece prop, integrated exhausts. As with Apex kit has four wheel bay doors, so probably same mold. -Eastern Express (-66 series, kit #72211) Looks like the dakoplast kits are the same as the Eastern Express kits. -Eastern Express (-35 series, kit #72212) -Dakoplast (-66 series, separate exhausts, integrated rudder(s), separate prop assembly, separate prop blades, solid wheel bay) -Dakoplast (-35 series kit #??) -ICM, have not detected any ICM LaGG-3 kits at the moment. Somewhere around here i loose my patience. So anything else i should have added or does the list look good? With all these different boxes, understanding this puzzle is a daunting one unless you have been there done that. Another unknown here is ofcourse the various decal sheets found in these boxes and the quality and accuracy of them but why not spoil yourself Rodden with an aftermarket item;-) Now, who else in here has a hunch Valom will shortly be making brand new toolings of the LaGG-3 and MIG-3??? ......oh no here i go daydreaming again Edited April 26, 2015 by breadneck
PFlint
you have found many ICM kits---they have boxes labeled TOKO or RODEN (ICM molded this kit but went out of business before they could release it) I have a Dakoplast Series 35 ,but don't remember if it was a Dakoplast box or E.E. can't seem to find the instructions right now--(decals by Anna&Co imply Dako....) also forgot to mention FROG kit has been re-issued under the Red Star name.--avoid this one. this should help clear up some of the confusion. https://www.scalemates.com/search-solr.php?fkSECTION[]=All&q=LaGG-3+1%2F72&qs=Search Edited April 26, 2015 by PFlint
Aaronw
The Roden kits are the Toko kits. This site may be of use to you. It covers all the series of LaGG-3 and which parts from the kits you need to use as well as any modifications needed. http://mig3.sovietwarplanes.com/lagg3/toko/toko.html

AlCZ
I think a Eastern Express are DACO plast mould, i have it a many many years ago and have the same boxart. (TOKO- later Roden) have their own mould for LaGG-3. I'm not sure about LaGG from ICM, i know a YAK-9 and similar type have DAKOplast... Eastern Express probably hold DAKO and TOKO moulds (P-63 "KIngcobra/Pinball" is from TOKO) When i good remember, in late '90 when begin kits maker boom in ex USSR make new Ukrainian and Russian companies the same type of WW II VVS aircraft -but another from their own mould.... ICM and Dako make Yak 9, TOKO and DAKO Il-2 "Sturmovik" and LaGG 3 too... And quarter scale LaGG-3 is form Eastern Front....
