You want how much for that???

Recommended Posts

The craftsmanship is incredible, these are not mass produced with computers and laser cuts. These highly detailed models are cut by hand, assembled and finished. Different woods are used on the models, pieces are not stained. You see the natural color and grain of the wood. Each model has a heavy feel that compliments the beauty of the work. The model has three coats of polyurethane applied to the finished model, giving a high gloss finish. Each model comes with a display stand that is also made from hard woods and accents the model. Models are carefully packed in custom boxes with high density foam. Models can be proudly displayed in a home or office, the quality truly makes each a work of art.

If you read the description, I think that they are selling a carved wooden model, and just used the boxart as a picture representing the type. Not a very good tactic, but I don't think you are, in fact, bidding on the actual plastic kit.

Nothing on Ebay is overpriced or a rip off if someone is prepared to pay for it. If you put your model up for $20 and it sells in minutes, the only question you have to ask yourself is "did I price that high enough?". If you think you got ripped off in an eBay sale, the only person to blame is yourself, because YOU agreed to pay that amount. There is no such thing as a rip off on something like that which is a non-essential entertainment item. You're not being priced out of buying bread and milk, are you? Sometimes I think people in capitalist western democracies need lessons on capitalism. Because most of the time they appear to be socialists in libertarians's clothing.

Wow, a light hearted tread about over priced crap, to a lecture in economics and western idology. Anything else you want to teach us professor?

Here's another good one. http://m.ebay.com/itm/181713479760?nav=SEARCH

Even if you didn't know you can usually find the kit for $30 at a show, the one listed directly above it is only $65.

Not that light hearted though is it? It just intrigues me that people whinge about the price of items that are non-essential. I want an Aston Martin, but accepted years ago I'll never have one. You justify the price of something non essential, or you don't. No point in calling the seller a rip-off merchant. If he gets what he's charging, he's a good businessman, and is to be applauded for being market savvy, surely? And if he doesn't get what he wants, he adjusts or goes out of business. I'm certainly no professor and I can work that one out.

I want the Trumpeter Be-6 Madge kit, but the market price is more than I can stomach. But I'm not whining about it, or calling it a rip off. Maybe one will come up at a price I can justify, or maybe in two weeks time I'll find that for any number of reasons I can justify the asking price (desire, a little extra in my pay packet, whatever). . . but I'm still not being ripped off. People complain constantly about he mark ups from Stevens International on stuff from Trumpeter and the like. But there's a reason those prices aren't dropping, isn't there? Because enough people will pay those prices to make it a worthy marketing strategy to charge them. You can only be gouged or ripped off on something that is an essential item you are forced to pay for. Anything else is your own stupid fault if you pay over the odds. That's why "light hearted" threads on outrageous eBay prices make me laugh. Not at the seller, but at the poster. These are the people who will spend thousands per year on any number of models for the stash, but then pick a cheap chinese clone airbrush and then whine that their finishes aren't as good as others they see.

It's irrelevant if something for sale at $65 from one seller on eBay is available for $30 elsewhere. If yo pay $65 you've justified it to yourself regardless of that difference. If you find it for $30 then yippee! Congratulations. But for the love of all that's holy don't then go back to the original vendor and complain that it was half his price elsewhere and you want a refund on the difference. Not his problem. You made a transaction, you agreed that the price he was charging was justified to you. Anything else is sour grapes.

None of which requires me to be a professor (just as well given my poor educational attainments!) , just a rational approach to what is a HOBBY.
