1/32 Zoukei-Mura A-1 Skyraider USAF

Recommended Posts

Hey Everyone,

Been awhile since I posted a In-Progress thread, but here we go with ZM'z 1/32 Skyraider USAF. The Skyraider has always been one of my favorite aircraft and I've had this kit for a while, so I decided to take the plunge and start it.

I will be going mostly OOB, with the addition of a few of ZM's add-ons and AMS stuff. I also plan on using Zotz Decals too.

Well here we go...

I didn't take a sprue shots but the box is full, and the instructions awesome so far, my only small gripe is having to go back and forth between the instructions. The main instructions are for the USN version and the USAF version is an supplement instructions, I see why they did this though.

I started with the cockpit. Good detail for me, I'm sure you could really go nuts but most of it wont be seen anyways. Mostly Model Master and Tamiya Paints

I cleaned a lot of this up after picture was taken. Pictures show the floor of the cockpit really dirty and worn.

I decided to get the ZM Skyraider pilot for this bird. He is well detailed for the most part. The biggest issue is that he is fitted for the USN bird, not for the Yankee Seat in the USAF bird, so he had to have some plastic surgery and I had to alter the seat for him to fit well.

And now he is complete

He does have his harness molded on and even comes off his back and would have fit around the seat eliminating the need for adding harness, but I had to remove it and will be replacing it with tape ones.

Thanks everyone for following along :salute:/>

Nice start! I will be following this thread. USAF Skyraiders rule!Marcel

Thank you Marcel.

Awfully nice work on the office and it's occupant...ol' chap...very nice....I'm debating purchasing a Z-M Skyraider...will follow and see how it builds out, for sure.

Thanks Greywolf. So far I'd say its been good. You'll see in my next post where I had to use some filler. But overall fit has been good.

Small Update

The fuselage has been closed up. Some minor gaps on the top and around the cockpit. Not sure if it was my own doing. I've left off or havn't painted alot of the kit pieces that wont be seen. Seems they could have lowered the price of the kit and left off alot of hidden stuff. The kit allows the speed breaks to open/close but I decided to just have them closed.

Thanks for following along :salute:/>

The Skyraider in any variant is a personal favorite of mine, so I'll be following along with great interest. Nice job on the cockpit and the pilot figure so far.

Joel

Thanks Joel

Update for Today. The bottom section with the wing spar is assembled. Fit is tight and really good on these pieces. A test shows a good fit into the bottom of the air frame.

I also finished the engine. Overall not too difficult and fit is good. The exhaust goes together well, but the instructions are not the best at showing the locations. I had mine wrong the first time.

I haven't decided if I am going to add ignition harness since a lot of the engine isn't visible through the front of the cowl.

Looking good Brent. I picked up the Navy version when it first came out. I started it, but it is currently sitting in my "to be completed" pile. You going to bring it to the meeting later this month?
