johnbuck
Hi Folks; Its many moons since I posted anything but wandering through Manfred's extraordinary Pad 39A model topic again...and it is extraordinary isn't it...got me to thinking. It is a superb combination of paper and styrene work and I was wondering if any of you have had a go at Alfonso's ISS ? http://www.axmpaperspacescalemodels.com/ISSpage.html#.VQ6YlSjmY9Y I bought what was available in 2009 and have dabbled a bit on it since ...made some progress but not alot. It is beautifully designed and like Manfred's work lends itself to some super-detailing methinks. Its probably the most accurate model of the ISS out there. If only it could be printed on styrene sheet. Is anyone out there building this ? Cheers John ps Will pick up Edu-Crafts LM when we are over in the States in May....another superb piece...could not resist. http://www.educraftdiversions.org/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=LM-5-
Hotdog
Could you scale Alfonso's ISS to 1:144 and fuse it into the Revell kit? http://www.revell.com/germany/space-sci-fi/80-4841.html#.VQ-rKOHvHYg
johnbuck
Thanks Hotdog That is idea but I was thinking more on the lines of Manfred's approach and super detailing the paper model. Cheers John
spaceman
Hello John, a friend of mine has built Alfonso's ISS, seen here at an exhibition (Space Days 2014 Darmstadt). And here you can follow a thread ISS-Revell 1:144 by another friend in our German Raumcon Forum.
K2Pete
John, it's good to see you back on here. My gawsh Manfred ... that ISS model's super detailing is un-bee-leev-able! You guys certainly do some fine work! John, I hope to read posts of yours on a less sporadic basis. Pete
spaceman
Thanks Pete, I'm going to give your compliments to the ISS guys. Edited March 24, 2015 by spaceman
johnbuck
Hi Guys Many thanks for the responses on this...wow Manfred that really is some model completed ain't it ? Certainly looks great at 100th scale. Super detailing this ??!!....oooh...err.. methinks I may have a re-think. Have just been adding a little texture on what I have done thus far at 1/144 so may stick with that...we shall see. Thanks Pete. Have been side tracked for some time on a non space modelling project...scratch-building Darwin's ship Beagle in limewood... but now it is time to give that a rest perhaps. This model hopping must be some kind of brain aberration ! Is there a suffers club I can join ? Cheers John Edited March 27, 2015 by johnbuck
Youngtiger1
My goodness, that is a big model. Manfred, your friend is just as crazy as you....in a good way :thumbsup:/> Mike
spaceman
Thanks Mike for your nice compliments, but you're right, this attention to detail is a kind of madness. In my next post I will provide further evidence ... BTW, my friend Michael is an exceptionally gifted paper modeler and he has also constantly completed his ISS (1:80) by the new modules, that at home is hanging on the ceiling. Hans
to anyone who is wondering, sir Alfonso's ISS is available in both 1/144 and 1/100 scales... but both are scaleable to any size one wants to build (provided you have a big enough printer to produce the components at a scale greater than 1/100 (I have a friend who is building it in 1/32 scale (yes, you read it right))... and as for detailing, the model that sir Manfred's friend IS the stock AXM ISS model... when you get* the whole station from sir Alfonso's site, it includes all the details to build the station exactly like in the picture... *some components are available for a small fee, but the rest are free downloads...
