  1. Interestingly enough, there were two of these sitting at Rickenbacker Airport (Columbus, OH) this past Saturday. I've seen them there a few times over the years, but never two at once. Never did figure our why - probably just a stopover. Two at once next to each other is an impressive sight and I did manage to get a couple of decent phots of them. If I get motivated, I'll post them -
  2. Car Talk has been part of just about every one of my Saturday mornings since maybe '88 or so. Sad, sad news. As long as they play the re-runs, I'll still be there. RIP.
  3. Or comment on a "crisp" panel line --- Phil Flory's videos are kind of addictive - I like his reviews a lot.
  4. Even a 1/72 with recessed panel lines, updates, etc. would be amazing - but I'm totally with you on a 1/48 Orion (or an EP-3 - historically relevant and interesting). A 1/48 Neptune is the only thing that would beat a big P-3 (and only because Kinetic was smart enough to put out their Stoofs).
  5. I lived there, too, from '71-'76 and it was the best place ever to be a kid. We lived on Libby Road not too far from Coupeville right next to Ft Ebey (before it was a state park). Amazing place back then - still pretty cool now. The farther you get from Oak Harbor, the slower (and better) the pace seems to be. Beautiful area with all kinds of people, perspectives, politics, etc. I try to get up there for a week or so every year, still. One of the best things about Whidbey is that it's almost equally close to Seattle (a big, international city), the Olympic National Park, Victoria, BC, etc
  6. The Roden OV-1B box art is pretty snappy, too. That OV-1A art is really amazing. There's a lot going on in that image and it's a rear view, too. The selling point almost seems like vibe - That's smart and really neat - I've got all three kits and I should really figure out some way of framing the box art. Really cool.
  7. Wow - That's a really awesome color-scheme - Really gives me something to shoot for. Really well done --
  8. I bought the kit about a month ago but really haven't done anything with it yet. It looks pretty good all things considered - For some reason, I've always loved that plane. It just looks like the workhorse it is. Wish I had more to tell you. Maybe I'll post something else about it once I get into it.
  9. Thanks. I look at the Whidbey papers pretty frequently and I haven't seen anything. I'll take another look. I'll check with the PAO, too. I'm staying close enough that I'll be able to tell when the field is in use. It'd be a shame to miss it if I'm away. It's an amazing thing to hear/see - especially in the dark.
  10. I'm going to be visiting Whidbey next month as a base for doing some recording in the Olympic National Park and I was wondering if there's any kind of schedule (even a loose one) for the Outlying Field near Coupeville. The last time I was up there, I managed to get some really great field recordings of 4 Growlers and a Prowler practicing, but it was kind of a random thing and I didn't have my usual gear at the time. Is there any day that they usually use the field? I know that there's no official observation area, but I was able to get some good stuff last time ('10) from about a thousand f
  11. I totally agree with this - What ever happened to a sense of wonder? Maybe it's just too hard for us to look up occasionally ---
  12. It's a shame that most people don't get really excited about this kind of thing anymore. I can't wait. If all goes well (knock on something), it's going to be fantastic. Can't wait... I remember when I was a kid just being totally fascinated by Viking. Awesome thing if everything works out.
  13. Nice work - I think the finish is pretty much spot on - not too matte. The C-27s from Mansfield are still pretty clean, though. I checked a couple of phots I have of them and they don't show much weathering yet. I think that you got the basic finish down really well. Looks good. I'm sure they'll dirty up soon ---- The unit up there just got a new lease on life (They were facing a crippling cut with the recent Defense bill but were saved (thankfully) last month) -- Good job, man...
  14. Rush's aged really well - I think that I like their last couple of studio albums more than the "classic" era stuff (which are "classic" for a good reason). There's a lot of high-firing mental power in that band. I'll make sure I get the new one... Rush's always interesting - That's not something you can say about every band that's been around for 40 years or so...
  15. I've got two of these waiting for me. Nice pics -----
