  1. It's finally complete. I found a display box that would fit on amazon which you can see the base of in all the pics. The first pics are without the top, and then the last couple with the top. My painting scheme is MM acrylics for the colors seen previously. Then I applied a coat of MM gloss acryl and apply decals. I use micro-sol on all my decals to get them to really lay flat. The decals from Eduard were excellent and even the smallest letters are still legible. After decals were dry of micro-sol, I applied MM flat clear acryl with a drop of US Army/Marines Gulf (sort of a tan color) an
  2. Hi all, I started this build when I was on a different forum. I got busy and the kit got put away for a while. For the longest time I couldn't find it but eventually did and I'm going to finish it up here now that I've switched to ARC. This is one of the limited edition offerings from Eduard which includes the base kit (Academy? I think; never built the original), resin/PE cockpit, various add-on bits in resin/PE, decal sheet, and masks. Here are the highlights from before: As you can see, the masks that came with the kit were very useful in marking out the green on the
  3. Was very busy the past few months. Finally got to work on the tomcat this weekend. The intakes, engine bay, and rear gear bays are painted and the engine components from intakes to nozzles are installed. The inside of the fuselage is a bit of a mess because of the reinforcement that was needed to hold the parts in place and to be suspended later. Thanks for looking, comments/questions welcome.
  4. Just cutaways so you can see into the cockpit like the bay for the cannon below it.
  5. Finally got around to doing some major renovations to the Tomcat. The first was the intake bleed vents. The top hatch on the kit ones is too thick around the edges so I just built new ones. The opening wasnt wide enough and the angle was wrong. The exit ramps are also not rounded off enough so I just cut them out for replacement later. It's definitely subtle, but I'm taking all this time to improve everything else so I thought, why not. You can see the difference below. The other issue that popped up was with the intake ramps. The kit is made to place them in the down position.
  6. Just a quick update: I finally started working on the cockpit. Made the initial cuts and started working on my figures. On another note, I'm looking for some pilot helmets. Anyone want to sell or trade?
  7. Can someone confirm this information is correct about the intake ramps? I'm trying to position them for low speed. Just want to be sure they're in the right place since they may require modification from stock. Thanks! http://www.anft.net/f-14/f14-detail-airintake.htm
  8. Been busy lately so not much progress. I was able to get the hardware I needed for the stand. I found a threaded steel rod and just looked around the nuts and bolts section until I found parts that fit. There are two 0.5" nuts in this contraption. On the far end is a bolt with washer to serve as a stop for the rod. The majority of the construct was built outside the plane while the nuts were threaded onto the rod. The small white plastic rods were fixed with CA glue to the nuts to hold their positions and then additional plastic rod was attached with CA glue/cement. The large hollow rod i
  9. Hi all, I'm looking for 1/48 pilots and helmets. Specifically the ones from the Hasegawa 1/48 F-18E/F/G kit (not A/B/C) or the Tamiya 1/48 F-16 pilot and helmet. I'm willing to pay/trade/accept donations :P (It's for a good cause) http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/index.php?showtopic=279200 Thanks PM if you can help me out.
  10. Joel - I don't think it's lead but it doesn't say on the spool, it doesn't seem as soft as lead. I pre-bent most of the curvature before installation.
  11. Aurora Mark - I don't know. I've had the spool for a while and the stickers are gone. I did do the same thing you mentioned...bath of CA glue. It has a sheen on it which makes me think it might be synthetic though.
  12. Update: Added landing gear details: Detailed landing gear bays and installed one: Added details to dashboards. The material is the filter part cut out of an automotive paint filter. I usually tack down an edge with CA glue then put tension at various spots to get the folds. While under tension, I use a toothpick to place drops of CA glue on the folds and after ~30 seconds it is hard enough to hold permanently. Then I coat the entire filter with CA glue to fill in the holes (which is very easy since the filter acts as a conduit for the glue). What is left is a textile appearance
