Jennings
Anyone seen the pics of the kit parts at www.hobbyterra.com!?!?!? Holy cow - that thing looks gorgeous! I've only wanted one of them for like 30 years now! Looks like Modelsvit's quality has ramped up a notch or two. Small sprue gates and very fine surface detail. I'm eagerly awaiting mine!! Used to see them toodling around out of Petropavlovsk Kamchatskij just about every day when I was in Alaska. Don't know that they ever did much but bore holes in the sky, but they did a lot of it! :) Be-12 Pics Here Edited February 26, 2015 by Jennings
stevehnz
I've got to agree Jennings, this does look quite superb, I just hope it goes together as well as the parts look. One of these is rapidly muscling its way toward the top of my NEED list. :) Steve.
Winnie
Yup, I think that will be March's model-splurge!! Been wanting one forever too!
kotey
I'm working about big decal - including fire-fighting, search and rescue and antisubmarine version. And pf course full stencil will include.
Jennings
Excellent news!
skyhawk174
I had no interest in the Be-12 but this release may change my mind. I see that Caracal Decal is also releasing a decal sheet. Who woulda thunk it?
kotey
Every model maker firm have Bf-109 in catalog, but never enoughf. Caracal make good quality product, i'm have few decals. I think Caracal and Begemot will not fight for this reason, and BTW our customers mostly are inside Russia.
Jennings
I'll definitely take Kotey's as my first choice :)
Flankerman
Kotey is the BEHEMOTH of decal makers. Kyen
11bee
I'll definitely take Kotey's as my first choice :)/> +1 Outstanding quality and extremely well researched. A cut above the rest....
Winnie
I think you mean БЕГЕМОТ Flankerman.... (haha, I laugh at my own jokes... lol)
Flankerman
Winnie, I know that Begemot means Hippopotamus in Russian - but isn't it also what we would say as Behemoth in English ?? Behemoth is a giant beast mentioned in the Bible - according to Wiki :- Suggested identities range from a mythological creature to an elephant, hippopotamus, rhinoceros or crocodile. So, my point was that Kotey is a giant amongst decal makers. Forgive me if you already got that...... Ken
kotey
Actually i'm Begemot jr. Begemot - it is Alexander Curignjan, founder of company. But anyway - thank to you all for you good words.
GMK
I'm hoping for someone to do Egyptian markings for this: six rounders, two flags & two, four-digit numbers....anyone?
Jennings
There are at least two companies that have announced Be-12 decals, so I'd say likely so.
kotey
We will do Egypt marking and if i'll find photos of Vietnamese Chaika - this marking too.
Jennings
I have never seen a photo of the Vietnamese Be-12.
kotey
4 Be-12, and only one photo in open sources^
janman
The more I see photos of this sea bird, the more I like it. And want to have it... Any reviews yet? The parts at least look pretty nice. I'm just wondering how big the finished product will be compared to, say Tupolev bombers like Tu-16 and -22?

There are some pics of a finished model here: http://karopka.ru/community/user/8071/?MODEL=383736 and sort of a build topic here: http://karopka.ru/forum/messages/forum189/topic19250/message771060/?result=reply#message771060 Size wise, it would be smaller than your Tu-22M. (size information on the box top http://modelsua.com/Beriev-Be-12-Seagull-Mail-amphibious-aircraft-1-72-ModelSvit-72012.html)
janman
Thank, Koen. I figured it might end up smaller in size than Backfire. Which of course is good news.
skyhawk174
I am not normally a 1/72nd aircraft builder with the exception of the multi-engined models. This Be-12 would foot that bill. It sure is an interesting beast. It looks so ungainly and a bit ugly. But with that said it also looks quite beautiful. Hmmm, maybe what they say is true, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Looking forward to the decals and I should go get the kit so I all ready when the sheets are released.

kotey
i'm saw Be-12 whan i'm was a liitle boy, Taganrog iz not so far from Rostov, but i'm saw it at first time at Gelendjik, it was summer 1982, maybe 1983. It was so amazing for me that aircraft landed at water surface - I thought that the фшкскфае now will crash, having fallen in the water. Jennings
The Be-12 is basically square - length and wing span both right at 30m, or 416mm in 1/72 (16.4" if you're old fashioned). Big, but not huge.
