KursadA
CD72021 will be a 1/72 sheet for the Lockheed EC-121 Warning Star, with several Navy and Air Force options. The Heller kit has recently gotten a new lease of life with new resin parts from Dmold and Fisher, and I would like to provide some new decals. Profiles and drafts coming as soon as I complete the B-58 instructions and ship this month's preorders, hopefully in a week or so.
Eli Raphael
Excellent choice Kursad! Much needed indeed. I have seen a USAF version with sharkmouth without the radars on.
MHaz
Kursad, Wow... Excellent news! I scored the old Microscale sheet for mine, but I think I'll wait for your sheet to come out now. Are you planning on both Navy and USAF birds? (Any of the EC-121 BatCat birds in camo?)
DutchThud
Excellent news. I have 2 EC-121's from Heller in my stack, waiting for nice decals. I hope you will include a WV-2 from Pacific Missile Range, NAS Point Mugu, CA in their very attractive dark gray/orange/white top c/s. Also an AFRES EC-121 from the 79AEWCS, Homestead AFB, FLa. would be very welcome.
Piker38
Please tell me that you're going to include a VAQ-33 bird........... Pretty please ?
Trojan Thunder
I'll be interested to see what schemes you offer.
Bonanza27
Please if you could, perhaps on a separate sheet, do the walkways. Especially if you do a dark gray USN aircraft.
Vince Maddux
YES!!!! I needed this sheet so badly, thank you for reading minds...
KursadA
Thanks for the suggestions and references, everyone! I will share some more information as I clear my shipping backlog this week and get back to working on the EC-121 sheet. There will be at least one camouflaged USAF option (I still need references on an interesting one though, preferably one with nose art) in addition to other USAF and several Navy examples with nose art. 82Whitey51
VXN-8 had some nice color to their birds.
skyhawk174
Wow, great news Kursad. My EC-121 has been gathering dust in my stash for so long I think the plastic is all brittle now :) I had planned a VAQ-33 aircraft using a Superscale sheet since there was not much else around. I think there was a white and dark blue USAF bird on the sheet too I think. Anyway, with your announcement I am happy to build something with some more colour or, heaven forbid, a camo one. Thanks again.

KursadA
I'm still working on these-progress has been slow this week since it was a pretty busy week at my real job. I expect to be finished with it next week though, still on time to make it an April release. Edited March 16, 2014 by KursadA
skyhawk174
Oh boy, that shark mouth is great. I had seen that scheme many years ago and promptly forgot about it. Nice to see that I may be able to build a Connie with that plus in camo too. Now to go hunting for another kit since I only have one to do my EC-121. Darn it, too many kits, not enough time :)
KursadA
After I was done drawing all the options I liked, I ended up with enough for two limited-run sheets. So I will release two different EC-121 sheets - these will be printed by Microscale. The first sheet will feature: -USAF EC-121T 55-0122, 1978. This was the last operational EC-121 that left Keflavik; and was decorated with the markings of 57th FIS on its tail and a red "TWA" on the port side. -USAF EC-121T 54-2307, 1978. This was the last EC-121 that served in the UK. -USN VW-11 EC-121P BuNo 141326 "Velox", 1962 -USN VW-1 WC-121N BuNo 145934 "Draggin' Lady', 1967 The second sheet will feature two more USAF examples (including the one with the sharkmouth) in addition to two more Navy subjects. KursadA
The second EC-121 sheet (CD72022) will feature two USAF (551 AEW and the sharkmouth Batcat) and two more Navy (VW-13, and NADU VW-2) examples. Also coming next month (April). I am basically doing these because I like the EC-121, and I have a couple in the stash. I realize they are not likely to be blockbusters or anything remotely like that, so they are limited to a print run of 250 sheets each.

Well I thank you Kursad for releasing this sheet and I think you will be surprised at the popularity. With Fisher models new update sets it may see a revival. I had started detailling my kit but it was such a chore that it is on the back burner until now. I bet the sheets sell out. I will have to get in for the second one with the shark mouth since I am thinking that one will be the most popular. I know that Superscale had one or two sheets for the EC-121 (I have one of them) but they are long OOP now so yours is most welcome.
Rocky
I have wanted markings for an Air Force EC-121, from the Vietnam War, for YEARS. I noticed recently that there is an aftermarket radome set for the kit. Supposedly there was something wrong with the kit radomes??
wcollamore
I live very close to Otis AFB (551st) and remember the "Connies" flying over my house when I was a kid. I am starting the Heller 1/72 EC 121 and your second decal sheet sounds like it will be perfect. How will I know when to order? Thanks! Wayne
KursadA
These are the two EC-121 sheets (CD72021 & CD72022) I will be releasing later this month. The second sheet has markings for two USAF (551st and a Batcat(not the sharkmouth though-sorry. I could never find good enough photos for some of the details)), and two US Navy (VW-13, NADU). skyhawk174
So no shark mouth? Drats. As long as there is the camo scheme I think I would be happy.

Kursad, Thanks for taking the plunge into the world of the EC-121. I've got several kits like this one that have remained in the box due to the lack of available markings. Your work is greatly appreciated. Could you please post the profiles of the second sheet, so we can see how they compare to the first one? I just placed an order for three of your other sheets. Thanks again, Chris Derks Virginia
KursadA
Thanks for taking the plunge into the world of the EC-121. Could you please post the profiles of the second sheet, so we can see how they compare to the first one? Hi Chris, I will post the profiles as soon as I finish shipping all remaining SH-2F sheets tonight and early tomorrow. In the meantime, here are some photos of the actual aircraft and/or units featured on the sheet. The first option is a 551st AEW aircraft in the natural metal/gray/dayglo scheme, as seen below: 551st EC-121 The second option is a camouflaged Batcat - the aircraft that eventually got the sharkmouth. I kept the same aircraft number in case I find better references of the sharkmouth. Camo EC-121 The third option is a VW-13 aircraft: VW-13 The fourth option is "Planner 1" of NADU in an attractive Arctic scheme: VW-2 (NADU) The partial silver "U.S" and "RCE" are the silver areas bordering the US AIR FORCE for the first option. I have already provided US AIR FORCE decals with the silver surround, but decided to provide the silver areas separately as an insurance policy in case the registration is slightly off. KursadA
The first EC-121 sheet & instructions are arriving early next week - I will make both sheets available at the same time in mid-May.
