ya-gabor
Last weekend saw the annual plastic modeling competition in the Slovakian capital Bratislava. This is the Plastic Winter (or Plastikova Zima as it is known locally). It is just a one day competition with all entries in well before noon and around 2 PM there is already the price giving ceremony. Since it is organized around the end of November and winter is around the corner the competitions image is built around the snowman as its main figure. A big snowman was not only in the main hall of the building but it is also reproduced in miniature on the prizes given to competitors. This year there were three different snowmen going to the lucky ones. Love them all, the idea is fantastic and they are well made! Here are the three versions. They are fun! All the prizes well arranged on the judges table. Here is one of the competion tables on the first floor of the building. It all starts with the 144 scale kits going all the way up to the biggggggg ones. Sorry due to my own interest I took photos only of the aircraft on show. More soon Best regards Gabor Edited November 24, 2014 by ya-gabor
ya-gabor
I love the Plastic Zima for its atmosphere, the organization of the whole show is flawless still the organizers don’t take themselves all too seriously, it’s all about the fun of scale model building. Isn’t this is what our hobby is about??? Of course apart from the competition it’s all about the trade side of the hobby also with a very wide range of traders fitted into every corner of the building as well as in the main theatre hall. It is more about the small companies (please don’t take offence if you consider yourself to be a big one) than the big injection molded kit producers. Dozens of aftermarket firms were present as well as many “support” companies producing tools, paints, modeling materials . . . as well as many retailers. Some bargains as well as some amazing prices on individual kits. A glimpse at one of the trade stands As I said the kits start with the 144 scale masterpieces. As one would expect Eduard kits were very strong. Both fiction with the Bunny Fighter Club paint scheme as well as some true scale replicas On to the 72nd scale and here are lots of MiG-21's once again, this time from the RV kit. Well the kit itself is . . . but the workmanship of competitors was very good. Lets hope that soon in the same categories it will be Eduard 1/72nd scale kits . . . Here a Mirage side by side with the MiG-21 The fact that we are in an ex WarPac country doesnt mean that there are only miG-21's on show. Some phantastic Phantoms too More soon Best regards Gabor

ya-gabor
Any helicopters? Sure there were helicopters too, but that was on another competition table. I was going to have a word about it later on, but here are some. The big one from Zvezda. Still with helicopters Yes there were lots of traders around. Here the tables of Aires and all the sub companies with in the Aires group. They had lots of new sets plus a lot of old ones too some of which were at half price. While with the traders. This set of sprues was on show already last year. The details are fantastic on the kit, Meteor is not my plane so could not comment on authenticity but it looks good. This year the kit was on sale with one of the traders. Apart from the Meteor there was also a B-17 in 32 scale. Big kit, big price . . .
