Stormtrooper Figure Question

Recommended Posts

I was looking to find a somewhat large-ish scale model of a Stormtrooper and ran across some 1/4 and 1/6 scale vinyl ones on E-bay for a decent price (under $20 if I recall). I've done vinyl kits before so that doesn't bother me, but does anyone know the quality of these kits? Anyone have any experience with them? I can't link to them currently since I'm blocked from E-bay right now, but I'll try to link later if no-one knows which ones I'm speaking of.

Thanks in advance,

Bill

No experience with vinyl but I will say. If it sounds and is cheap, it probably is.

That said if you have experience and feel you could tackle a tough challenge try one out. What's the harm? You'd only be out 20$ or so and eventually with some effort hopefully you could get a nice figure.

They may also be brilliant I have no idea. Just sharing a thought/opinion.

I'd love to see them either way. May be worth picking up myself.

I hope not. I don't want to support anyone counterfeiting. Is there another company that made a 1/6 scale Vinyl kit? They also have a 1/4 scale I was considering if this one is ok. I've never seen anyone else produce a kit, just the action figures.

I did just find this list of past/present Star Wars kits. Not my website, I just happened upon it from a google search:

Star Wars kit list.

Just a quick look at the list shows that it isn't complete as I have a few resin kits that aren't listed on there, but still good reference.

Awesome Dave, thanks for that! I never knew there were so many Star Wars figures out there.

I am a little upset to find that my purchase is likely from a counterfeit dealer, perhaps not but probably so. I do recognize some of the older Horizon kits in their line-up. I had hoped they came upon those legally cause I was considering some of them as well. Oh well.

Thanks and I'll let everyone know when I get this in.

Yeah, I think I stumbled upon the same company a couple years ago when I was looking for an old vinyl 1/6 Rocketeer. I almost ordered from them until I found out what they were doing. I held out and managed to get an original one off of ebay for a decent price. Still, it's hard not to buy from them on kits that are OOP and difficult/costly to find.

I think it might be an older Kaiyodo/Screamin' mold originally, especially with the Han Solo head with it.

I know Bandai is coming out with a 1/12 kit this December.

You mean this guy http://www.hlj.com/product/BAN994379/Sci I don't think it will be a kit as we think of one. More of an action figure that has multiple hands that you can change out. I doubt there will be any actual gluing or painting involved.

That would be a shame if that was the case. I was hoping for something along the lines of the Dragon Iron Man kits.

I was looking at those and to me it looks like it's somewhere between a kit and an action figure. They do state that the limbs are movable and I think I can see the ball toy type joints. But don't look quite as obvious as most toys. I'd be ok with something if you can simply glue and fill in a joint without a lot of work to make a nice looking figure. But if it's no less work than say fixing a diamond figure...well that's different. I also wish they were a little larger. 1/8 at least would be good.

Yup, as I suspected. Not quite a full on figure model in the traditional sense, and not quite a toy. The joints will take some work to fill in and take out the articulation pin holes etc... and the cape could use a re=sculpt if you want more of a replica. But for the basis of a good model, I think it has all it needs. I think the stormtrooper might be the first I try from this series. Still wish they were bigger.
