Don
WOW...it seems as though we have an unofficial Panzer II Group Build happening here on ARC. Three Tamiya Panzer II's in as many days. Nice to see the ARC Armor pages getting more traffic as of late ! Here is my rendition of this classic Tamiya 1/35 kit: After three straight builds of fairly heavily weathered armor I elected to keep this one rather tame. My goal was to model a fairly new arrival to the Afrika Korps, minor fading to Panzer Grey on the high points and a light dusty appearance (these vehicles weathered quickly): The tank commander is only TEMPORARY (Verlinden figure on the way)! The figures in the kit are really starting to show their age (40ish years). The Afrika Korps soldiers had huge seams on their legs, arms, and face. It was all I could do to make the commander somewhat presentable: I mixed my own RAL 8000 using Tamiya paints. This isn't an exact science as the first German tanks to arrive in theatre were delivered in Panzer Grey and hurriedly camouflaged in desert brown by their assigned crews or rear echelon personnel: Kit is 100% OOB. The tracks are weak in many senses of the meaning...but passable. The sand wore away much of the rust, so no need to get too intense in the rust department. Also the guide teeth were quickly worn to a shinny finish due to the harsh dry sandy environment: Thank you for taking the time to view my model. Please feel free to comment, thoughts, opinions. Kindest regards, Don
murad
Lovely work and the tc figure is already looking ok! Good job with the sprockets also they are looking straight, i had very hard time with attaching mine - they kept busting their hubcaps off.... So what's the next group build subject? Thank you very much! The sprockets gave me fits at first as well. But I then figured out if I left them off until after the track was wrapped around the idler, return rollers, and road wheels they would literally snap into place. Perhaps I am lucky ! Hummm...we could do an unofficial group build...might be fun . I am game for pretty much anything. Cheers! Don Edited January 31, 2015 by Don
murad
j/k. i have enough on the bench as it is no need to find an excuse to start open a new kit - besides we might have another unofficial gb in the future who knows.
