B-1 Nut
Gentlemen, Last week I purchased the re-released 1/48 Monogram B-58 Hustler. I have used the search function, but wanted to see if I have missed anything that is/was/will be on the market for this kit. Resin: a. Lone Star Models B-58 Engine Pod Upgrades Review b. Fisher Models B-58 Engine Intakes Review c. Fisher Models B-58 Afterburner Upgrade Set (I heard there was one, but cannot find a review or photos of the pieces) d. Fisher Models B-58 Elevons Review e. Fisher Models B-58 Ejection Seat & Clear Resin Pilot's Hatch Review f. Engines & Things Back Seat Resin Detail Set Review g. Aires Exhaust Nozzles (From what I understand these pieces do not fit the kit's engine nacelles very well) - no review found h. Golden Dragon B-58 Cockpit Set Review Decals: a. Fox One Decals (sheet #48-014) Photos at Bottom of Page b. Mike Grant Decals (B-58 #1) Review c. Mike Grant Decals (B-58 #2) Review d. Mike Grant Decals B-58 Stencil Data/Insignia - no review found e. Muroc Models B-58A Decals Review I figured this could be useful to others like myself who will be building this kit very soon. Are there any items that I have missed? If so, please let me know and I will edit this post and include them. It seems like there was a cockpit set that I'm missing, but maybe I dreamed it up. MoFo
AiRes don't do B-58 engines per se. The B-58 used J-79s, like the Phantom, and AiRes has done F-4 exhausts for the Hasegawa kits. Their B-58 set is just a re-box with two pairs of the Phantom parts. For a variety of reasons though, the AiRes exhausts for Hasegawa's F-4s are not the same diameter as the exhausts in the Monogram B-58. Meaning you'd be better off using one of the other manufacturer's B-58 engine sets. Superscale *had* some decals, long ago, but they'll have been OOP for decades. And Mike West/Lonestar has a few other items in the works, but no set release date AFAIK. edit for clarification. Edited February 10, 2009 by MoFo
PolymerAddict
I have not bought them (yet) but Cobra Company also makes J-79's. If you go to their site, just scroll down to the bottom. --Will
drhornii
Good list & thanks for the hyperlinks Makes me want to get the Hustler (model for now, maybe the magazine later...)
dsmith
I will eventually be doing a wheel set for the B-58, but I'm not sure when I will be able to get it done. Too much on the table right now. As for the Aires exhaust sets, they do fit the Monogram kit. I really don't know why people say they don't (maybe they didn't when they first came out?). There is a big difference in size between the AIRES B-58 and F-4 exhausts. I will try and post a picture when I get home tonight. Cheers, -Doug

Slartibartfast
Lone Star has plans to offer the three pits a la Golden Dragon. Might be ready by April?
drhornii
While on the B-58 subject, got a great "what if" idea. How about an updated B-58 with either F100-PW-220(or 229) engine or the F110-GE-100 engine as used on the F-16 & F-15. Story would be the B-58 modernization program after the B-1 program was canceled during the Carter admin.....or some other good story. Heck, you can also add LANTIRN pod or Sniper pod to the airframe......and a glass cockpit. You never know....it could have happened.
Spooky 01
Eduard makes a nice PE-set for the burner-can's. You can check them out at their web-site: www.eduard.cz "Check Six....." Spooky.
metroman
The Aires cans do not fit. They are too narrow in diameter. I bought them when they first came out, but have since used them for F-4 projects that they are more suited for. Yes you can slap them on and do nothing, it's your model. I choose to use the kit parts and scribe some interior detail along with adding some scratchbuilt 'business' inside.
Flush
Is the re-released B-58 still sporting raised panel lines?
dsmith
Yep, it's the same kit. Here is a link to the review I did on the AIRES exhausts (here) Cheers, -Doug

Oh and in case you missed it, Mike Grant has released some B-58 decals. Very nice. yep got 2 sets from gord the other day and yes they are as nice as they look. I have 2 B-58 kits in various stages of bieng rescribed. i think a cockpit set and engine intakes would finally put me over the edge, and get me to finish at least one of em
Av8fan
Mr. Fisher's intakes are VERY nice. I just need to be patient. I will get these gear legs eventually. Of course, There will be a few NMF kits done before I ever start on the B-58.
Pruz
Mr. Fisher's intakes are VERY nice. They are indeed! Beautifully molded, and little works of art in themselves. I would just mention one issue with them - they are all molded as inboard intakes, meaning they all have the front end of the pylon fairing molded on. In fact the two outboard intakes do not have this, so you will need to file and sand those parts from the two intakes you intend to use as the outboard ones. Unless Mr Fisher has rectified this with later releases of his set? I built mine (LINK) November last. Al
Marcelo_P51D
Hi Jed, I want the same kit. Can you post some pic's of them.... Thanks Marcelo
signals
Does anyone know how the Fisher and the LSM intakes compare? It seems like the fisher set is $30 for the intakes only where the LSM has intakes as well as exhausts for the same amount?
