IrishGreek
I know of one company that has one. I have one of their kits that is an old Tender that my dad was on (after WWII) USS Cascade. Here is the link to the USS Patoka Loose Cannon company link I have no association with this company other than having one of their kits.
Rich in name only
Hi! Patoka was a replenshiment ship but not underway replenishment---back when the ships were stopped to transfer fuel. Apparently Patoka wasn't even a replenishment oiler for long. She was a tanker (carry liquid from port to port), not an oiler (refuel other ships). The kit shows her as a base ship for Navy dirigibles, which was her mission for a number of years. She also was a mine vessel tender and base supply/repair ship. The links include a link which identifies the ship as a T2--MARAD standard design. Revell's old tanker/oiler kits are essentially T2. They do not include replenishment gear but that would be easy to make. While they have good detail in many areas the piping is molded in and best replaced with tubing. They make a nice model and I recommend considering them, preferably a Navy version---don't know if the commercial versions include the gun mounts. Revell scale is about 1/400. If you choose a T3 ship more mods are needed. The hull is about 50 feet longer, beam about 8 feet more, and the stem is more angled. There are underwater differences too, primarily for a model T2s being single screw and T3s having two. Heller had a 1/400 tanker but I don't know anything about it except being 1/400 scale and available second-hand. Rich
Matt_S
Thanks for the responses. Found this on the Loose Cannon models; looks to be the same style I'm looking for: http://www.loosecannonmodels.com/1-700-t-2-type-tanker-oiler-ao-1944/ Matt
Rich in name only
Looks like a nice kit! Compare the separate pieces for the deck "plumbing" with the Revell kit and you see the work to remove all that from the Revell kit and scratchbuild the piping, etc. Note the extra structure for the deck cargo, especially the rear PT boats. This looks like a good kit for 1/700. Rich
dnl42
Bluejacket Ship Crafters has a 1/16" scale (1/192) T-2. It's a solid-hull wooden model with some PE. They have several WWII ships in this scale; they used to have more, having focused at one time on Taffy III at the Battle off Samar in the Battle of Leyte Gulf... Fishwelding
Given the diorama potential of 1/700 scale ships generally, it seems a logical next step for plastic kit makers who are steadily building out catalogs of the war's ships in this scale. I think at least one set of kits is available in plastic for the Imperial Japanese Navy.
