ross blackford
:D, Which QANTAS flight are you talking about Spang? There were a lot of them involving Catalinas from the late 30s to the mid 50s. , Ross.
spang
Hi Ross, I'm talking about the " Double Sunrise " flights during WW2...the most interesting for my Catalina. Cheers SPanng
ross blackford
:D, Hi spang, I'd have to look that up but I have a couple of books on RAAF Rathmines during and after WW2 so I'll have a look and see if there's anything there. Rathmines had aircraft detached all around Australia and the Pacific and Indian Oceans during the war. You could google RAAF/QANTAS double sunrise runs or RAAF/QANTAS Kogala to Fremantle runs and see what you come up with there. Off the top of my head I can't tell you but I'll certainly look it up as you've just tweaked my interest and last weekend was the Catalina festival at Rathmines featuring an air display by the Historical Aircraft Restoration Society's Cat painted as one of the "Black Cats" , Ross. spang
Hi Ross, Thanks for the information. i have find some pictures but hard to know the camouflage and markings. Cheers SPang
ross blackford
:D,Hi SPang, From the info on google the camo was the "Black Cat" camo which was actually not black but a very dark kind of navy blue called RAAF Blue. As for markings, I can't help you there at the moment but if you search through all the listings in google search you may find some. They may even have had civil registrations as some of the RAAF and USAAF C-47s had as well as military insignia. Remember that these were top secret flights and they were timed to fly through airspace that was patrolled by the Japanese during the hours of darkness to minimise the chances of being spotted. Hence the "Black cat" camo. , Ross.
spang
Hi Ross, Thanks for your message. I have fin some information about registrations of each aircraft and i start to have an idea of the camo...probably a mixt od Black & RAAF Dark Blue and give a nice look of the aircraft like the RB-L camo. No decals existing at the moment... SPang
