  1. What happens when you Google for China Air Museum and Apache? http://www.china.org.cn/english/kuaixun/72761.htm It was even seen in 1999 by a CNN reporter - http://edition.cnn.com/SPECIALS/1999/china.50/dispatches/09.24.aviation/
  2. Sounds like it's time to put a lock or catch on the display case... Certainly it's a lot cheaper than rebuilding all those kits! That said, now you have a reason to build more new kits!
  3. It's kind of why I'm having a clearout of my kits and DVDs and PC games, although not in the high money range like some. I realised last month that I have lots of stuff gathering dust that will never get done as my interests have changed. So I'm selling to pay for a trip to Prague next month ! Don't worry, I'm not quitting model making. I just had (still have? ) a habit of buying kits that look good or the price seems right at the time. Maybe I had an idea for a build that never happened and now the plastic is just taking up space and gathering dust. Good news for the charity stores who go

  8. Berlin is good for a weekend, having been there already I'm going back in June. This time I'm making a point of seeing the Luftwaffe Museum at Gatow and the Technik/Science Museum which has a Dakota on the roof, I hear the aviation displays there are good. The Anhalter Bahnhof ruins nearby show the damage caused by the war as do the ruins of the Kaiser Wilhelm Gedachtniskirche (Memorial Church) on the Kudamm, both were designed by the same man. Be warned, all govt-run museums are closed on Mondays! The East German/DDR Museum is small but gives a very good idea of what life was like in the
  9. Given the basic description could it be Captain Marryat's classic novel, Children of the New Forest? Wikipedia says the BBC did a TV version in 1977 and I'm sure it got repeated in the 80s like everything else. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0418379/
  10. Several histories of the Blitz and general WW2 bombing report that roof tiles and windows were smashed or cracked by falling anti-aircraft fire. There's an enduring myth of Londoners being machine-gunned by German fighters, it's more likely they were hit by bullets falling from high altitude dogfights or AA guns. Some roofs were damaged by falling barrage ballons and their cables. http://www.1900s.org.uk/1942-45-children.htm http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/ww2peopleswar/stories/92/a4029392.shtml (approx 8 paragraphs down)
  11. Ouch! Sounds nasty and it took me a long time to find a dentist I trusted to work on my rotting teeth. She told me last year that teeth implants start at £1000 and rapidly head upwards Hope you've got good health insurance to cover the costs, not sure if the NHS cover this stuff. In case you're hungry.. http://www.livestrong.com/article/300314-meals-for-a-broken-jaw/ Plenty more websites out there for ideas.
  12. How about a Lego Erickson AirCrane bigger than the builder? He named it Elvis http://www.damngeeky.com/2013/01/18/8345/brickvention-2013-erickson-s-64-air-crane-helicopter-replica-created-from-100000-lego-bricks.html http://www.damngeeky.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/Lego-Erickson-S-64-Air-Crane-helicopter.jpg
  13. Apply Caution Here. A few years back on the 25th anniversary of the Falklands Conflict, on the front page/TPC Steve B put up a version of the 1982 Las Malvinas War timeline sent him by an Argentine modeller. IIRC this claimed that the RN lost both carriers and 10 other ships while all the Argentine bombs exploded. There were many other differences between the most accepted version and this version. As a result lots of British modellers closed their accounts, left this site and started up the BritModeller website. Let's not have a repeat of that argument please. The fallout is still going on
  14. At Christmas my 7yo niece came into my room and asked me about my stash. It went like this... "Uncle Nick, you've got a lot of model airplanes in that glass case. Why do you have so many?" "Because I like them, kid." "But why do you like them so much?" "Errmm... why do you have so many teddy-bears in your bedroom?" "Oh. OK!" My stash isn't huge unlike that of some people here. It's only :P about 130 kits which I can see myself building in the next decade. If I push myself. And don't buy any more. And buy a bigger display case.
  15. I'm coming at this from a UK drivers point of view and looking at the airfield via Google Streetview. I have driven on several airfields where you have to cross the runway at some point and all of the active ones have warning signs before you enter the runway area. They range from full size gates to traffic lights to simple 'Low Aircraft' roadsigns. Now, the Streetview images are poor quality but I see nothing to say 'You are entering an Airport' or 'Low Flying Aircraft'. At that left turn there really should be something to warn you there's a runway nearby. You know, just a basic eye-level '
