Bob Beary
In looking at the directions for their PE cockpit set for an F-4E, it seems that you can either stack two pieces of the metal PE together to make up the instrument panels (one piece is the panel and the second has the dial faces) or use one piece of the PE and place a film with the instruments behind it. I may have to use the film method to keep the panel black. Is there a preferred method? And secondly, what is the best way to adhere the acetate film to the plastic of the kit and how to adhere the PE overlay to the film? Or how best to glue the two pieces of PE to one another? It seems that it could get real messy really fast! Thanks Bob
viper730
Both options are about the same and some touch up is required once complete...SO with the option of the acetate does it suggest a color for the background behind the acetate. I kind of remember the dial hash mark numbers being clear which would require a white background.hold it up to the light and check it out or put it on a black backgronud and see what you can see.. Assembly is easy I attach it with white glue or future. the same with the overlay. then once dry,1/2 hour or so, hit it with a clear coat, semi gloss or flat...then lastly some gloss clear or future into the dial openings to make them POP....If you use the 2 etch pieces same thing only you wont have to paint the background color but will have to touch up the edges with the interior panel color(black?) to blend it in...same thing as above with attaching white glue or future and seal with semi gloss or flat coat and then drops of clear into the dials for POP... Bob Beary
Thank you Sir. A very well written reply and it gave me exactly the information I was looking for. One thing I had not considered was the color of the background for the acetate. That was very valuable information. Bob
ChippyWho
Another thing to bear in mind with Eduard coloured items is that the dial faces on the metal panels can be quite poorly defined (almost invisible in some cases), whereas the printed film option usually looks much sharper.
